AI Engineer / Forward Deployed AI Engineer

PE-Backed Consulting Firm with Unicorn Status Trajectory!🦄

📍Central London

💰£60k - £80k

We’re partnering with a fast-growing, PE-backed technology consultancy that develops and deploys engineering talent into some of the UK’s largest organisations.

As part of a major investment in its AI capability, the business is hiring both AI Engineers and Forward Deployed AI Engineers to build production-ready solutions and help enterprise clients adopt them successfully.

These roles are particularly well suited to ambitious second or third jobbers who have developed strong technical foundations and now want broader exposure, faster progression and the opportunity to move into consulting.

The Opportunities

👉AI Engineer

You’ll focus primarily on designing and building AI-powered applications and systems. This could include generative AI, agentic workflows, RAG, machine learning solutions and intelligent automation.

You’ll work across the full engineering lifecycle, from experimentation and prototyping through to testing, deployment and ongoing improvement.

👉Forward Deployed AI Engineer

You’ll combine hands-on engineering with direct client delivery. Working closely with enterprise customers, you’ll help identify valuable problems, shape the right solution and take it from initial discovery through to production.

This pathway will suit someone who enjoys the technical work but also wants greater exposure to clients, stakeholders and commercial decision-making.

What You’ll Be Doing

Depending on the pathway, you’ll:

  • Design, build and deploy production-ready AI solutions
  • Develop applications using Python and modern AI technologies
  • Work with generative AI, LLMs, RAG, agents and automation
  • Turn business requirements into practical technical solutions
  • Build prototypes and take successful concepts into production
  • Test, evaluate and improve the reliability of AI systems
  • Collaborate with software, data, cloud and product teams
  • Work directly with enterprise clients and technical stakeholders
  • Contribute to reusable engineering patterns and best practices

What We’re Looking For

You don’t need previous consulting experience, but you should bring:

  • Commercial experience in software, data, machine learning or AI engineering
  • Strong programming skills, ideally using Python
  • Exposure to building AI, ML or data-driven applications
  • An understanding of good software engineering principles
  • Curiosity about generative AI and emerging technologies
  • The ability to explain technical ideas clearly
  • A practical, problem-solving mindset
  • An interest in working across different clients, industries and challenges

For the Forward Deployed pathway, you’ll also need to enjoy client interaction and feel comfortable working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to move beyond isolated prototypes and work on AI systems designed to deliver genuine value in production.

You’ll gain exposure to major enterprise environments, varied technical challenges and the complete delivery lifecycle—while receiving the support and development needed to accelerate your career.
