Role Overview
The Director, Global Strategy Operations is responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination of Mc Cann's global strategy function.
Working closely with the Global Chief Strategy Officer, this role acts as the operational lead for the department, ensuring that priorities are translated into action, key initiatives are executed effectively, and the global strategy community remains aligned, connected and informed.
The role oversees the systems, communications, leadership forums, capability programs, tools and processes that support more than 2,000 strategists across the Mc Cann network.
It also serves as the central point of coordination between global leadership, regional teams, market leaders and external partners.
This position operates as the Chief of Staff to the Global CSO and plays a critical role in ensuring the effective running of the global strategy organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- LEADERSHIP OPERATIONS & CHIEF OF STAFF SUPPORT
- Serve as the primary operational partner to the Global Chief Strategy Officer.
- Manage the execution of key departmental priorities and strategic initiatives.
- Coordinate activity across global, regional and market leadership teams.
- Ensure decisions and actions are followed through and delivered against agreed timelines.
- Prepare leadership materials, presentations, updates and communications on behalf of the Global CSO.
- Support annual planning, objective setting and reporting across the global strategy function.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the Global CSO on organisational priorities and operational effectiveness.
- GLOBAL STRATEGY OPERATIONS
- Manage the operating rhythm of the global strategy department.
- Coordinate leadership meetings, community forums and department-wide initiatives.
- Maintain departmental processes, governance and communication channels.
- Identify operational gaps and implement improvements to ways of working.
- Support alignment across regions and facilitate collaboration between markets.
- Lead special projects and strategic priorities on behalf of global strategy leadership.
- Coordinate cross-functional stakeholders to ensure effective execution of key initiatives.
- STRATEGY PLATFORMS, TOOLS & METHODOLOGIES
- Lead the ongoing development and management of Mc Cann's Truth to Impact operating system.
- Oversee the systems, platforms and resources that support strategic excellence across the network.
- Manage strategic technology initiatives, including AI-enabled capability programs and knowledge platforms.
- Manage relationships and contracts with research, technology and capability partners.
- Oversee strategic subscriptions and tool partnerships used across the network,
- Drive adoption of strategic methodologies, tools and best practices globally.
- CAPABILITY DEVELOPMENT
- Consistently audit and define strategic capability gaps for the network.
- Define and oversee capability development priorities for the global strategy community.
- Design and deliver learning programs that strengthen strategic standards across the network.
- Partner with regional leadership teams to identify capability gaps and development opportunities.
- Lead global training initiatives focused on strategy, data, audience and AI understanding and other emerging capabilities.
- Support the growth and development of strategists across all levels of the organisation.
- COMMUNICATIONS & COMMUNITY MANAGEMENT
- Lead communications across the global strategy organisation.
- Manage newsletters, announcements and department-wide communications.
- Maintain global distribution lists and community communication channels.
- Coordinate content and updates from regional and market leadership teams.
- Support initiatives that strengthen engagement, collaboration and knowledge sharing across the strategy community.
- Ensure consistency in messaging, priorities and organisational updates globally.
- LEADERSHIP FORUMS & GLOBAL PROGRAMMES
- Lead the planning and delivery of global strategy leadership meetings, annual summits and community programs.
- Manage awards initiatives, leadership forums and flagship strategy events.
- Coordinate agendas, materials, speakers and participant engagement.
- Ensure leadership programs support strategic priorities and organisational objectives.
- Facilitate collaboration and best-practice sharing across markets and regions.
- STRATEGIC INITIATIVES
- Support global business development opportunities and cross-market strategic projects.
- Coordinate strategic support for global client opportunities when required.
- Mobilise resources across regions to address high-priority opportunities and challenges.
- Lead special projects and initiatives sponsored by the Global CSO.
Qualifications
- Significant experience in strategy operations, program management, agency leadership, business operations or chief of staff roles.
- Experience working directly with senior executives and leadership teams.
- Proven ability to lead complex, global, cross-functional initiatives.
- Strong organisational and project management skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
- Experience managing multiple stakeholders across regions, markets and functions.
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently and manage competing priorities.
- High degree of ownership, accountability and attention to detail.
Omnicom’s policy requires employees to work in the office for a minimum of three days a week, unless additional in-office days are directed by their agency or manager.
Our objective is to increase this requirement over time, and many of our agencies as well as Omnicom’s corporate group already require five days of in-office attendance.
