Technician
Location: Leighton Buzzard
Hours hours per week (Mon β Fri) + Overtime available
Are you a skilled technician with a background in engineering or building surveying? Do you thrive on solving problems, working hands-on with structures, and delivering high-quality technical insights?
On behalf of our client, Initivo Consultancy, we\βre looking for a detail-oriented, proactive Technician to join the Building Pathology team. In this key role, you\βll support a wide range of building investigations and surveys, from concrete assessments and water ingress investigations to non-destructive testing and laboratory analysis.
You\βll also play an important part in mentoring junior team members, ensuring safe working practices, and delivering accurate reports that support our clients\β decision-making.
What you\βll be doing
- Assist with and deliver condition surveys using both intrusive and non-destructive techniques
- Carry out concrete assessments, including deterioration, reinforcement integrity, and corrosion investigations
- Support water ingress investigations, identifying sources and recommending solutions
- Use NDT techniques (e.g. ground-penetrating radar, ultrasonic pulse echo) to gather and visualise data
- Coordinate laboratory testing of samples (strength, chemical analysis, etc.)
- Prepare and contribute to high-quality technical reports for clients
- Manage and maintain specialist equipment, making recommendations for replacement/innovation
- Lead on-site works, operating access plant (MEWPs, cherry pickers), sampling, and supervising junior staff
- Prepare RAMS and ensure compliance with all health and safety standards
- Work flexibly across Initivo projects, supporting colleagues and developing your own technical skills
What we\βre looking for
- A relevant qualification in construction, engineering, surveying or related discipline
- Strong understanding of building materials, construction methods, and investigative techniques
- Experience with NDT techniques and laboratory equipment (desirable)
- Health & safety awareness (SSSTS, CSCS blue/gold card or similar)
- Competent with hand tools and measuring equipment
- Organised, detail-focused, and able to work independently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A positive, collaborative team player with leadership potential
- Flexibility to work both on-site and in-office, occasionally outside normal hours
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites
