Our client operates in the environmental sector, specialising in biodiversity and habitat creation, helping developers meet their environmental obligations while supporting nature recovery across the UK.
They are looking for an Assistant Commercial Analyst to join their growing team, supporting the Finance and Sales functions with commercial analysis, pricing, financial modelling and market intelligence.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career who enjoys working with numbers, understanding business performance and turning data into meaningful commercial insight. You'll gain exposure to a unique and growing market, working across pricing, sales performance, site profitability and long-term financial planning, with full training provided on the business model and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) market.
The role offers a broad mix of analytical and commercial responsibilities, giving you the opportunity to work closely with Finance, Sales and senior stakeholders while developing the skills needed to progress into commercial finance, FP&A or finance business partnering.
Key responsibilities
- Support commercial pricing and quotation analysis, reviewing selling prices, costs, gross profit margins and overall returns.
- Develop and maintain financial models, pricing dashboards and reporting tools to support commercial decisions.
- Work closely with Sales to track performance, monitor the sales pipeline, analyse conversion rates and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
- Produce market intelligence reports, analysing development activity, competitor supply, pricing trends and future commercial opportunities across the UK.
- Build and maintain stock reporting to track available biodiversity units, sales, inventory movements and future site availability.
- Monitor site-level financial performance, comparing actual expenditure against budgets and forecasts, investigating variances and highlighting potential risks.
- Prepare financial dashboards for landowners and internal stakeholders, tracking sales, cash receipts, returns and long-term site maintenance obligations.
- Maintain accurate financial and commercial data, carry out reconciliations and improve the quality and consistency of reporting.
- Identify opportunities to automate reporting and develop dashboards using tools such as Excel, Power Query and Power BI.
- Present clear financial analysis and commercial insights to Finance, Sales and senior management to support informed decision-making.
What we're looking for
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, with a genuine interest in commercial analysis and business performance.
- Good Microsoft Excel skills, including confidence working with formulas, structured data and financial models.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate, reliable data.
- The ability to interpret financial information, identify trends and explain findings clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
- Strong organisational, problem-solving and communication skills.
- A relevant degree, apprenticeship or equivalent experience in finance, accounting, economics, mathematics, data analytics or business.
The following would be advantageous
- Experience in commercial analysis, commercial finance, FP&A, management accounting or a data-focused role.
- Exposure to budgeting, forecasting, margin analysis and financial modelling.
- Experience with Power BI, Power Query or other business intelligence tools.
- Familiarity with sales pipelines, CRM systems, property, land, infrastructure or environmental markets.
This is more than a traditional entry-level analytical role. You'll gain hands‑on experience across commercial finance, sales analytics, pricing strategy, financial modelling and market intelligence within a growing environmental sector.
You’ll receive training and support to develop your technical and commercial skills, work closely with experienced finance and sales professionals, and have the opportunity to take ownership of projects and improve how the business uses its data.
For someone looking to build a long-term career in commercial analysis or finance, this role offers a strong foundation, with potential progression into Commercial Analyst, FP&A Analyst, Finance Business Partner or Commercial Finance roles as your experience develops.
If you’re analytical, commercially curious and keen to turn data into decisions, we’d love to hear from you.
