Associate Director – Civil Engineering (Airports)
About the role
Shape the future of a growing airside infrastructure team.
As an Associate Director you'll lead the technical and commercial delivery of airside civil engineering projects for airport operators and contractors, from feasibility and concept through detailed design and construction support. With multiple live projects across various clients, ranging from specialist aircraft tracking exercises and runway inspections to full RIBA design stages for new stands and taxiways, the work is varied.
You'll join an ambitious, client-focused team with a growing portfolio across regional and defence airports, including Leeds Bradford, Norwich, Bournemouth, Guernsey, Alderney and BAE Warton. With a strong pipeline and a collaborative operating model, the role offers significant scope for leadership, influence and career progression.
You'll be the trusted technical adviser clients turn to, building long-term relationships, mentoring the next generation of engineers and playing a direct part in growing the aviation business.
What you'll be doing
- Lead airside civil engineering projects from feasibility to construction support
- Deliver runway, taxiway, pavement rehabilitation and drainage design
- Apply aviation standards, including CAP 168, ICAO, EASA and DMG 27
- Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs, including AGL, drainage, geomatics and ground investigation
- Manage programmes, resources and change control across multiple projectsPresent clear, defensible recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences
- Mentor engineers and technicians towards chartership
- Contribute to fee proposals and identify opportunities for additional services
What we're looking for
- Experience in pavement design and rehabilitation, ideally to DMG 27
- Experience leading multidisciplinary projects across multiple clients
- Confidence building client relationships and explaining complex information clearly
- Commercial awareness, including fee proposals and contract forms
- A genuine interest in developing others
