Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled SEMH Teacher to join a specialist SEMH school in Hastings. This full-time, contract role offers an opportunity to support students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, helping them to develop confidence, resilience, and academic success within a structured and nurturing environment. As an SEMH Teacher, you will deliver tailored lessons that meet the needs of students with complex emotional and behavioural challenges. You will work closely with a supportive team of teaching assistants, therapists, and pastoral staff, ensuring students engage with learning in a way that suits their individual needs.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons suited to students with SEMH needs.
  • Foster a positive and structured classroom environment that encourages learning and emotional regulation.
  • Use a therapeutic and trauma-informed approach to teaching and behaviour management.
  • Work collaboratively with support staff, SENCOs, and external professionals to develop individual learning plans (ILPs).
  • Support students with self-regulation, social interaction, and emotional well-being.
  • Assess and track student progress, adapting teaching strategies as necessary.
  • Maintain strong communication with parents, carers, and multi-agency professionals.
  • Uphold safeguarding policies and ensure the welfare and well-being of all students.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • A strong understanding of SEMH teaching strategies and behaviour management.
  • Experience working in an SEMH or SEND setting is desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, adaptable, and resilient approach to teaching.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
