The Company: OMFIF is a dynamic and independent think tank. Through our London-based team we produce research and events on world finance and economic policy. We have a comprehensive global network of economic, political and investment decision-makers. Our members come from both the public and private sectors and comprise some of the most well-known and respected financial and technology organisations in the world. In addition to membership, we offer bespoke meetings and research on global policy and investment themes. OMFIF operates through four thematic institutes:

  • The Economic and Monetary Policy Institute (EMP) convenes leaders from public and private sector institutions to discuss macroeconomic trends and shape the future of monetary policy and political economy.
  • The Digital Monetary Institute explores the topic of payments, including digital currency as an alternative to cash, and brings together technologists and policy-makers at the heart of decisions relating to the future of finance.
  • The Sustainable Policy Institute (SPI) focuses on sustainable finance, addressing the policy, regulatory and investment challenges posed by environmental, social and governance themes with those responsible for shaping the sustainability agenda.
  • The Sovereign Debt Institute convenes issuers across the global sovereign, supranational and agency debt community for high-level, strategic and constructive dialogue on the key issues each side faces.

At OMFIF, we strive to maintain a start-up atmosphere where creative ideas are encouraged, with no two days the same. We are looking for entrepreneurial people from diverse backgrounds who are keen to develop their skills, gain responsibility and share our vision of realising full potential, embodying the company values of independence, innovation and integrity.

The role: As an Economist in OMFIF’s Economic and Monetary Policy Institute, you will play a key role in analysing economic trends, compiling and assessing data, helping produce our benchmark surveys, creating and writing reports and discussing economic and monetary developments with clients and stakeholders. The successful candidate will place a special focus on data collection, analysis and execution for our key surveys and publications, including the Global Public Investor and the Absa Africa Financial Markets Index. The Economist will support the broader research of the Economic and Monetary Policy Institute, focused on macroeconomic and central banking policy, geopolitical influences, foreign exchange and asset management trends, trade issues and foreign reserves management. The successful candidate will also support the Digital Monetary Institute's research, focusing on instant financial transactions, digital money, AI, and the tokenisation of capital markets. You will have the opportunity to develop projects to improve the impact of our research and expand our engagement with official institutions and investors across the world. You will contribute to OMFIF’s overall knowledge and information activities by helping identify leading economic speakers in different fields for our wide range of seminars and conferences. In these sessions, we regularly exchange thoughts, ideas and recommendations with international peer groups connecting public sector institutions with private sector financial market participants. The themes range across geo-economic issues, monetary and financial policies, capital markets, sustainable economics and international trade.
