Job Title: Technician – Substations

Location: Glasgow (Hamilton)
Reporting to: Senior Technician – Substation Civil
Business Unit: Omexom Design

Purpose of the Position

To support the preparation of high-quality civil and structural drawings and models for transmission and distribution substation projects. The Technician will assist design engineers and senior technicians in producing 2D and 3D deliverables, maintaining drawing registers, and ensuring accurate and timely design output aligned with project standards.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Including but not limited to:

  • Drawing Production
    Produce and update civil and structural drawings for substation components such as foundations, bunds, roads, fencing, and equipment layouts using AutoCAD or equivalent software.
  • Model Assistance
    Assist with the development of 3D models and digital drawings using tools such as Civil 3D, Revit, or similar, under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Drawing Management
    Maintain drawing files, assist in version control, and ensure up-to-date records within the Common Data Environment (CDE).
  • Design Team Support
    Work closely with civil and structural engineers to ensure drawings accurately reflect design intent and incorporate any revisions or mark-ups.
  • Compliance and Standards
    Follow established Omexom and client drafting standards and procedures, including drawing formatting, layer conventions, and referencing.
  • Documentation
    Support the maintenance of drawing registers, schedules, and technical file organisation as part of overall design assurance processes.
  • Learning and Development
    Take part in on-the-job training, mentoring, and skills development to build technical knowledge and CAD/BIM capability.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • ONC/HNC or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction, or a related technical field.
  • Practical experience using AutoCAD for civil or structural projects.
  • Understanding of technical drawings and the principles of civil or structural design.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a collaborative design environment.

Desirable Attributes
