Within Omexom Renewables Northern Ireland Business Unit (BU), there is a requirement for a SHEQ Advisor to oversee and enhance project delivery standards related to Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ). The SHEQ Advisor will play a pivotal role in ensuring that all Omexom projects uphold the highest standards of Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality stewardship. The role involves promoting and advising on all SHEQ matters, as well as driving continuous improvement in quality practices across project sites, supporting Omexom's commitment to operational excellence.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Safety Management and Compliance
- Develop, implement, and monitor safety policies, procedures, and practices in alignment with Omexom’s health and safety standards and regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and safety inspections at various sites across the BU to ensure compliance and identify potential hazards.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, including statutory requirements, codes of practice, and relevant guidelines.
- Develop and compile Safety Files for various projects in a timely manner.
- Attend site-based meetings when required with various clients.
- Incident Investigation and Reporting
- Lead investigations of incidents, near-misses, and accidents, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Prepare and maintain accurate safety records, including incident reports, inspection findings, and corrective action tracking.
- Develop reports for senior management, highlighting safety performance metrics and recommending improvements.
- Risk Assessment and Hazard Control
- Conduct risk assessments and provide recommendations for control measures to mitigate identified hazards.
- Advise project teams on appropriate safety measures, including personal protective equipment (PPE), safe work practices, and emergency procedures.
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to implement risk mitigation strategies specific to energy and infrastructure projects.
- Training and Development
- Assist in training relating to Omexom safety procedures and practices.
- Support the BU in ensuring any safety related required training is in place and is up to date.
- Deliver health and safety training to site personnel, including induction, toolbox talks, and refresher courses on safety protocols and procedures.
- Identify training needs and coordinate ongoing safety training and development programs to ensure a high level of safety awareness.
- Maintain records of all training provided and ensure site personnel are fully aware of their health and safety responsibilities.
- Promoting Safety Culture
- Actively promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement across all levels of the organisation.
- Serve as a visible safety leader on-site, fostering a proactive approach to health and safety.
- Engage with site teams to encourage safe behaviours, provide guidance, and promote health and well-being initiatives.
- Emergency Preparedness
- Coordinate emergency response planning and drills to ensure preparedness in case of accidents, environmental incidents, or other emergencies.
- Assist in the development of emergency response procedures tailored to the specific needs of each project.
- Ensure all personnel are familiar with emergency response protocols and maintain emergency equipment.
- Other Tasks
- Co-ordinate the COSHH, Calibration & Inspection databases.
- Organise PAT testing.
- Organise and facilitate (with support) the statutory inspections of equipment and tools for the BU.
- Assist with the SHEQ support of project PQQ and tendering activities.
- Undertake any additional duties which fall under the remit of a SHEQ Advisor, where the business needs support.
- Assist and complete various reports for both Quality and Environmental.
- Carry out Environmental and Quality audits.
