  • Role purpose

A Senior Project Manager is required by the Business Unit to play a key part in our organisational success, ensuring commitments to our customers are delivered on time and to the highest standard.

The job holder will have a consistent track record of project delivery along with demonstrable experience in developing diverse teams.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Manage the planning, procurement and construction phases of projects, liaising with the Project Director, Client representatives, suppliers, sub-contractors, Health and Safety Advisers, Environmental Manager, Systems Manager and Office Manager to ensure Nor Power and Client policies are implemented, all elements of the project conform to applicable requirements and that health, safety, environmental and quality provisions are adequate.
  • Prepare for agreement, monitor and update, as necessary, the project programme.
  • Ensure your own familiarity with Client requirements and specifications and that these are communicated to, and implemented by, relevant personnel.
  • Responsibility for the assessment of risks associated with the project, identifying, planning and co‑ordinating measures to mitigate and control the risks.
  • Purchasing and verification of materials/goods which conform to the requirements specified by the contract, applicable standards and specifications, ensuring that sustainability is embedded within the procurement process.
  • Responsibility for the management and logistics of material deliveries.
  • Management and development of project control plans and instructions, including the Construction Phase HSE Plan, RAMS, Construction Environmental Management Plan, Quality Management Plan and other such controls as applicable to and/or required by the specific project.
  • Ensure the relevant project plans, instructions, design drawings, and other relevant documentation are available on site, current and contain sufficient detail and are appropriate to the intended user.
  • Ensure all personnel are inducted onto site and that issued instructions are clear, documented as necessary, and understood and that any changes to requirements are communicated to the appropriate personnel, with relevant documentation updated as necessary.

Co‑ordinate regular site safety meetings with respective subcontractors.

  • Ensure temporary works documentation is in place as per current policies and procedures.
  • Co‑ordinate traffic management works, liaise directly with specialist contractors, where required.
  • Carry out regular site visits and inspections/audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Ensure all incident and near miss reporting procedures are implemented and assist with investigations.
  • Attend project progress meetings and report progress and KPI performance to Nor Power and Client Management.
  • Responsibility for ensuring all site records according to requirements are maintained in preparation for handover.
  • Responsibility for your own safety and that of all personnel under your control who may be affected by our work including employees, contractors, visitors and the general public, taking action to eliminate unsafe situations, behaviours and practices.
  • Support the business through identification of, and participation and co‑operation in, internal activities and improvement initiatives.

Person Specification

Qualifications and experience

Essential

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing OHL construction projects at Site Engineer level
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the OHL construction industry with the ability to demonstrate in‑depth knowledge of operational, safety, legislative (in particular CDM Regs) and technical aspects of OHL works.
  • Computer literate particularly in the use of email and Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Well‑developed communication, teamworking and interpersonal skills.
  • IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent qualification).
  • For the Assessing Officer element, the role holder will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience supervising/controlling the type of work to be assessed.

Desirable

  • Current SSEN, WPD Authorisation
  • NEBOSH H&S in Construction Certificate
  • Experience in project Planning using software programmes.
