Role purpose
To support the Project Delivery Teams at our Kintore site in the delivery of all works being undertaken. Kintore substation upgrades is a suite of complex programmes integral to the Transmission Network Operator’s upgrade of the East Coast Transmission Network. As the Senior Planner you will take the lead in driving the programme to completion. Through the provision of technical / contractual support and training of the planning staff.
Responsibilities & Duties
- To be the focal point for planning functions within the business unit, providing the requisite leadership and drive to deliver a complex suite of programmes.
- To provide guidance to the PM in critical and near critical activities.
- To provide guidance to the PM in activities required for each stage of project delivery.
- To provide guidance to the PM on opportunities and risks within the programmes.
- To provide programme submissions and reports to the client as required by the contract.
- To capture progress and change routinely to meet the requirements within the contract and to implement processes to ensure this as required.
- To communicate the impact of change and/or delays to the PM and to provide guidance to the PM on opportunities and risks within the programmes.
- To provide training and development in planning methodologies to planning staff junior to the Senior Planner.
- To provide training in the use of planning software to graduate, trainee and apprentice planners.
- To provide training in other planning software to PMO staff as required.

Qualifications and experience
It is essential that the successful candidate is an excellent communicator with all stakeholders (internal and external), a commercially focused self-starter with the enthusiasm, motivation and initiative to succeed in this role. The jobholder must possess:
- Working knowledge of relevant Health and Safety legislation.
- Extensive knowledge of Primavera P6 and good knowledge of other planning software, Asta, Microsoft Project etc.
- High level of numeracy and excellent analytical skills.
- Excellent MS Office skills, well versed in the preparation of reports and information using packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Exhibits a strong awareness of the level of interaction required with the project team function to support the successful delivery of projects.
- The ability to reconcile cost information as it applies to the programmes of work.
- Proficient in the interpretation of estimating, scheduling, programming and risk tools.
- Self-motivated with good interpersonal skills working in a team environment.
- Good attention to detail with good time management skills.
- Excellent communication and presentational skills.
Desirable
- Expert knowledge of Primavera P6 and good knowledge of other planning software, Asta, Microsoft Project etc.
- Understanding of NEC3/4 contracts, in particular the programme deliverables/requirements.
- Understanding of DCMA Assessment Criteria, Acumen Fuse etc.
- 5 years Relevant industry experience.
