Overview
Job Title: Project Engineer
Reporting to: Project Manager
Role purpose
The Project Engineer will be responsible for supporting the Project Manager through tendering, planning, developing and delivering Overhead Line and Substation projects ensuring the highest standards of health & safety, environmental and quality whilst ensuring productivity is achieved at all times.
The jobholder will be working on site full time as part of an experienced team setting to work and leading teams and subcontractors to meet project objectives. They will be expected to travel to various site locations throughout the UK.
Responsibilities & Duties
Including but not limited to the following:
- Be responsible for the Health & Safety for yourself, colleagues and others and actively promote the reporting of Positive Interventions.
- Ensure all works are being conducted in the correct and safe manner and proactively reduce site hazards.
- Conduct monitoring and inspections on a routine basis, active reporting of Positive Interventions.
- Develop and brief project inductions and undertake setting to work briefings.
- Compiling and issuing documentation and permits (e.g. permit to dig) and retain a register.
- Responsible for ensuring works are compliant with all relevant quality standards and records are whole, accurate and complete, develop and enforce Inspection and Test Plan.
- Maintain and develop new skills and competencies in accordance with Omexom’s training standards and legislative changes.
- Undertake Site Manager / Project Manager duties in periods of absence cover or on smaller projects as necessary.
- Responsible for ensuring programme timescales are met and monitor progress.
- Responsible for ensuring that project costs are minimised and changes are identified and captured.
- Compile an accurate and up to date daily site diary.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with the standards, policies and procedures of Omexom and its clients.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with team members and clients.
- Work as part of a team to ensure the safe, effective and efficient implementation of operations.
- Ensure conformity to all instructions stated in method statements and risk assessments and produce/amend for review when required.
- Responsible for ensuring Temporary works is correctly identified, planned and managed.
- Ensure that accidents, incidents and near misses are suitably reported.
- Ensure compliance with statutory legislation and public bodies.
- Identify and brief Environmental hazards to all workforce.
- Ensure all work is completed to a high-quality standard.
- Deliver Toolbox Talks and safety briefings.
- Manage landowners, 3rd parties, suppliers and subcontractors in a professional manner and effectively communicate with clients.
- Embed positive culture.
- Proactively identify areas for business improvement to improve safety and efficiency.
- Liaise with design and engineering teams on technical matters.
- Use knowledge and experience to develop others and to gain best practice.
- Have a clear understanding of client requirements, standards, procedures and scope of works.
- Effectively implement Omexom Project Delivery Process.
- Support tendering team as required.
Person Specification
The jobholder will be responsible for the safety of themselves and colleagues, and act as ambassador for a strong safety culture within Omexom. This role can be challenging, and therefore the jobholder will be required to respond quickly to changing situations. At Omexom we aim to provide the best possible service to our customers. In addition, the role will involve working outdoors in a site environment in all weather conditions.
Qualifications and experience
The jobholder must have experience of working in the overhead line construction industry and possess a strong understanding of health, safety, environment and quality aspects and have a sound technical knowledge, as well as:
- Experience, knowledge and application of the utilities/construction industry.
- Experience in a similar role.
- Industry recognised Engineering or Safety qualification.
- Experience in the supervision of Overhead Line construction activities including subcontract works associated with Overhead line construction.
- Experience in dealing with clients, landowners and 3rd parties namely Network Rail, Highways, Environment Agency, DNOs etc.

- Flexibility to be able to travel to work locations across the whole of the UK
- Full driving license
- Ability to ensure compliance with safety rules and documentation, and be committed to working safely at all times
- Possess the ability to work in a time pressured environment

- Must have strong communication skills
- Must be an effective team worker
- Must represent Omexom by acting in a professional manner at all times
- This is a flexible based role with frequent travel and overnight stays as required on projects.
