The General Foreman will be responsible for overseeing all works on overhead line projects, liaising with NorPower project management personnel, foremen, sub-contractors, and SHEQ personnel, ensuring the highest standards of health and safety. The role includes actively promoting the reporting of SAFEchecks to assist continual improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading by example and embedding a positive culture, managing employees to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and codes of practice.
  • Cooperating with the Project Engineer and Project Manager to plan and monitor works, updating site staff on planned works, and reporting progress against agreed dates/targets.
  • Allocating and coordinating site resources including NorPower staff, sub-contractors, materials, and equipment, considering each person's authority, training, experience, and competence.
  • Ensuring staff are aware of their responsibilities and that risk assessments are carried out daily.
  • Carrying out setting to work briefings and ensuring working parties have access to relevant information and instructions.
  • Ensuring works are carried out in accordance with all relevant SHEQ drawings, schedules, processes, and methods, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Taking responsibility for the safe operation and storage of plant, tools, and equipment on site; ensuring all equipment checks, inspections, and certifications are current.
  • Ensuring incident and near-miss reporting requirements are complied with and assisting with investigations as appropriate.
  • Supervising trainees by a suitably experienced staff member and following instruction.
  • Using existing competence and experience to assist in the continual development of all staff.

  • Be able to plan ahead, prioritise workloads, and respond quickly to changing situations.
  • Be an effective leader, achieving employee engagement and customer satisfaction.
  • Be able to work outdoors in a site environment in all weather conditions.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum five years' experience in the overhead line construction industry, including three years holding a DNO authorisation/competency certificate.
  • Experience in all areas of construction and maintenance of OHL, including inspection, testing, certification, reporting, and related specifications, equipment, materials, and tools.
  • Appropriate certificate in health and safety (e.g., Site Supervisor Safety Training).

Competencies Required:

  • Flexibility to travel across the UK.
  • Full driving license.
  • Training, experience, and certification appropriate to relevant machinery, plant, and equipment, including lift planning.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with safety rules and documentation; commitment to working safely at all times.
  • Ability to work in a time-pressured environment.
  • Adaptability to changing situations and environments.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Effective team worker with the ability to organise a work site.
  • Professional representation of NorPower at all times.
