The Health & Safety Advisor provides operational support across the Transmission Overhead Line (TOHL) Business Unit, ensuring high standards of health, safety and wellbeing throughout all project activities. The role is predominantly site‑based, requiring regular travel (approximately 70–80%) to project locations to support site teams, subcontractors and SHEQ colleagues. The position promotes a proactive, behavioural‑based safety culture, ensures compliance with legislation and the Omexom Integrated Management System (IMS), and contributes to continuous improvement across all projects.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Provide visible and positive leadership on health and safety matters across all sites.
  • Promote a proactive, behavioural‑based safety culture and encourage hazard and near‑miss reporting.
  • Support and deliver site inductions, toolbox talks and safety briefings; ensure records are accurate and compliant.
  • Ensure compliance with the Omexom IMS and ISO 45001 standards.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits and behavioural observations; record findings and follow up corrective actions.
  • Support the collection, monitoring and reporting of H&S data, KPIs and incident statistics for internal and external reporting.
  • Assist in the development and review of Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), Construction Phase Plans and other project H&S documentation.
  • Review subcontractor RAMS and safe systems of work and provide support where required.
  • Support incident and near‑miss investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and lessons learned are recorded on IMS.
  • Provide advice on correct PPE, tools and equipment use, challenging unsafe behaviours and supporting corrective actions.
  • Attend internal and external H&S meetings, client forums and audits as required.
  • Encourage the identification and implementation of preventative measures.
  • Undertake additional duties as appropriate and directed by the Line Manager.

Person Specification

Qualifications and experience

  • NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Solid understanding of UK H&S legislation and CDM 2015.
  • Experience in a site‑based H&S role within construction, utilities or infrastructure.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing RAMS and Construction Phase Plans.
  • Recognised training in accident/incident investigation.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of ISO 45001 and integrated management systems.
  • IOSH or IIRSM membership (or working toward it).
  • Internal auditor training (e.g., IRCA Internal Auditor).
  • Experience with electrical networks or TOHL operations.
