Purpose of the Position
To support the Business Unit General Manager (BUGM) in managing the daily operations of the Plant & Equipment Depot(s), ensuring operational excellence, safety and quality across all delivery commitments. The Plant Depot Operations Manager will ensure the Plant & Equipment teams are working to process, maximising efficiencies and pulling the necessary resources together to ensure adequate support is supplied to all internal customers.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Be accountable and lead by example for overseeing and managing the daily operations of the Plant & Equipment Depot(s), including delivery, safety, quality and performance of the Specialist Plant, Equipment and Mobile teams.
- Ensure all Plant & Equipment is maintained, compliant and accurately recorded for all works carried out within the Specialist Plant & Equipment teams, by competent persons in line with legislation and regulations such as LOLER, PUWER, Machine Regulations etc.
- Be accountable for the safety performance of the Plant Depot(s), working closely with the Compliance Officer to ensure safety is the main priority across the teams, contractors and visitors, driving a positive safety culture through the Positive Intervention process to ensure everyone returns home safe each day.
- Work effectively and efficiently by supporting and guiding the Specialist Plant & Equipment teams to ensure deliveries to customers are met right on time, safely on time.
- Embed and empower an adaptable and flexible culture to embrace change and drive continuous improvement within product and service offerings.
- Be accountable for ensuring internal stock utilisation is maximised, reducing external hire needs and maximising financial returns and margins for the Business Unit (BU).
- Assist the BUGM with new business opportunities to drive efficiencies and growth as the BU develops and diversifies.
- Explore new and emerging technology and innovative products, liaising with and visiting the Supply Chain in the UK and overseas to continually improve and develop new Specialist Plant & Equipment, with a focus on safety enhancements and the ambition of zero emissions.
- Support the Asset Manager with Whole Life Asset costs for Plant & Equipment, preparing proposals for BUGM review and identifying asset disposal, replacement or life extension opportunities where appropriate.
- Ensure Plant & Equipment maintenance and inspection schedules are monitored, compliant and maintained in line with company processes and procedures, ensuring alignment with working practices and industry regulations.
- Ensure effective Specialist Plant & Equipment planning to evidence internal utilisation, supporting the CAPEX process with informed Business Case / Justifications for investment.
- Assist the Asset Manager and BUGM to produce Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) Forecasts for Annual Budget approval.
- Maintain excellent levels of communication across the team and the wider business, delivering year‑on‑year growth through new opportunities while managing headcount and maintaining healthy profit margins in line with group expectations.
- Ensure that all Omexom Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) policies and procedures are adhered to, adopting a safe method of working at all times.
- Undertake any other duties as required to meet the varying demands of the business and satisfy customer needs.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
- 5yrs+ proven experience within the Transmission Over Head Line (TOHL) Industry.
- 5yrs+ operating at a Senior Manager / Department Manager level.
- Proven experience in a similar role within a TOHL Plant / Equipment environment.
- Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Hold a Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Criteria
- Degree / Diploma Level, LEEA Qualification or similar.
- NEBOSH Management for Construction Qualification.
- Experience of managing a geographically dispersed team.
- Willingness to travel and work away from home occasionally to suit business needs.
- Computer literate – comfortable with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint etc.
