Job Title: Design Manager
Reporting to: Head of Design Management
Role Purpose
The Design Manager is a key member of the Design Management team.
You will assist the Head of Design Management and the relevant design Business Unit General Manager, to ensure design compliance, quality, and successful delivery of a portfolio of design projects.
- Promote Omexom within the industry to assist with developing the business and employees and attract likeminded people that share our values to join our expanding team.
- The DM possesses a high level of skill and understanding of the design delivery process and is able to perform all parts of the task satisfactorily and make judgements and decisions correctly in a variety of situations.
- Set the highest standard for stakeholder management across the project team and ensure that the Design teams uphold it.
- Be commercially and financially aware to ensure that all scope change is managed efficiently across the project.
- Encourage engineering innovation and value engineering during the design and construction process to reduce site-based construction activity with a particular emphasis on sustainability.
- Support the technical design team in preparation and review of the Processes and Procedures used to manage the design and ensure that these are followed during scheme development.
- Assess the impact of any one project design requirement on other concurrent projects and support allocation of resources as necessary.
- Understand NEC and other relevant contract types.
- Manage the design programme, design scope deliverables and report progress and delays accurately.
- Act as custodian of change, through a change register, managing site changes, EWNs, nCEs and PMIs in line with contract requirements.
- Work with commercial managers, quantity surveyors, project managers and internal designers to manage design and communication between delivery teams and Omexom Design Business Units.
- Manage Technical Queries (TQs) and Requests for Information (RFIs), maintaining a register.
- Liaise with the Principal Designer to ensure communication around permanent and temporary works.
- Promote a proactive team culture, sharing lessons learned and best practice.
Responsibilities & Duties
Including but not limited to:
- Lead and manage the overall design programme, design scope deliverables, and report progress and delays accurately.
- Produce design programme in collaboration with the design teams and OEMs.
- Overall coordination of tenders, estimates, and technical responses.
- Ensure delivery of scope on time, on budget, and in compliance with quality and safety-by-design principles (CDM 2015).
- Drive ‘smarter working’ practice within the design team.
- Promote safety, health, and environmental awareness.
- Create a culture of innovation and collaboration.
- Manage scope and technical change across projects.
- Monthly project reporting.
- Seek opportunities to deliver safer, faster, better and more profitably.
- Ensure production and maintenance of key project documents.
- Ensure compliance with Omexom governance and client requirements.
- Review method statements / risk assessments for design compliance.
- Ensure design team works to Client specifications and supplier requirements on Energy Transmission projects.

Person Specification Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- 8+ years’ experience in a related role plus relevant degree (Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, or similar)
- Proven design project delivery capability
- High attention to detail
- Strong focus on developing people and building a team
- Design delivery and management experience
- Experience supporting teams to deliver safely, on time, on budget, to high quality
- Stakeholder management experience
- Strong technical grounding and engineering delivery experience
- Leadership experience delivering varied project complexity
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams
- Degree qualified in a relevant discipline
Desired:
- Experience with energy transmission/distribution specifications
- Experience in UK Energy sector or highly regulated industries
