The Client: instantly recognisable, thriving, growing much loved brand in FMCG. You will be joining a market leader.
A market-leading FMCG supply chain and logistics operation is seeking a visible, influential and people centric Site HSE Manager to lead Health, Safety and Environmental performance across a highly complex, fast-paced distribution and warehousing site. This site has an exceptional, award-winning safety, risk, and audit record. Your job will be to evolve it to world class. This is not a traditional compliance-driven safety role. You will embrace a lot of autonomy to shape the role.
We are looking for a people-centred leader who can build trust, challenge constructively, and influence operational teams to take ownership of safety at every level. You will act as a ‘critical friend’ to the business, helping leaders drive improvements whilst embedding a culture where safety is owned by operations rather than managed by the HSE function alone.
The operation spans multiple business units, warehousing functions, transport activities, and automated logistics environments, all at different stages of their safety maturity journey.
The Opportunity - Site HSE Manager:
- Reporting into a senior leadership team, you’ll take a highly visible role across a large-scale logistics and FMCG operation where relationship building, influencing skills and cultural leadership are every bit as important as technical HSE expertise.
- You are the site based Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Safety, Health and Environment (SHE).
- You’ll work across:
- Large-scale warehousing and distribution operations
- Automated material handling systems
- Transport and fleet activities
- MHE and FLT operations
- Contractor and facilities management partners
- Engineering and maintenance functions, multiple operational leadership teams
What You’ll Be Doing - Site HSE Manager:
- Leading the site’s HSE agenda through coaching, engagement, and influence rather than enforcement.
- Developing strong relationships with operational leaders, supervisors, and frontline teams.
- Acting as a trusted advisor and critical friend to the leadership team.
- Supporting different business units through varying stages of safety maturity.
- Driving behavioural safety initiatives and improving workforce engagement.
- Analysing HSE data and trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Supporting audits, assurance activity, and management systems.
- Conducting inspections, audits, and reviews to drive continuous improvement.
- Monitoring SHE performance and ensuring compliance with standards and performance.
- Ensuring regulatory and environmental compliance.
- Helping operational managers take greater ownership of risk management and safety.
About You - Site HSE Manager:
We’re far more interested in your ability to influence people and drive cultural change than simply your ability to quote legislation. You may currently be a Site HSE Manager, a HSE Business Partner, a Regional HSE Advisor, a SHE Manager, a Safety Business Partner, or Head of Site HSE or Health & Safety Lead, from environments such as: FMCG Manufacturing, Logistics & Distribution, Warehousing, Food Manufacturing, Retail Supply Chain, E-commerce Fulfilment, Automated Distribution Centres, Transport & Fleet Operations.
- Strong relationship-building skills.
- Credibility with senior stakeholders.
- A collaborative coaching style.
- Confidence in challenging appropriately and pragmatically.
- Experience operating in large, fast-moving operational environments.
- The ability to engage everyone from shop-floor colleagues to executive leadership.
- A passion for creating sustainable cultural change rather than simply policing compliance.
- NEBOSH Certificate minimum, Diploma strongly preferred.
- Experience operating within ISO 45001 environments with auditing experience.
- Diploma in Environmental preferred not essential.
- Exposure to warehousing, logistics, transport, or FMCG operations.
- Experience managing contractor and high-risk activities.
- Comfortable working within complex multi-stakeholder operations.
- Data-driven approach to improving HSE performance.
Why This Role? Site HSE Manager:
- Excellent Bonus up to 15%, Pension and health benefits.
- Guaranteed time off during the Christmas period.
- A highly competitive salary.
- An opportunity to join an award-winning company and site, in an influential role.
- Autonomy to take ownership, identify priorities, drive initiatives, and shape the SHE agenda.
- The opportunity to lead positive culture change and leave a lasting legacy.
This is a rare opportunity to join a highly regarded operation where safety is genuinely valued by leadership and where the successful individual will have the autonomy to influence strategy, shape culture and leave a lasting legacy across a complex, high-profile site with several hundred passionate colleagues working on it.
