We are currently recruiting for a Controls Engineer to join their growing team based between Cheltenham and Tewkesbury. Our client specialise in bespoke control systems, factory automation solutions, robotics, vision inspection systems and plastic container handling equipment. Due to continued growth and increased customer demand, they are looking to appoint an experienced Controls Engineer to work on a wide range of innovative automation projects across multiple industries. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of projects from concept through to commissioning, working closely with mechanical and electrical design teams to deliver complete turnkey automation solutions.

Main Duties:

  • Program PLCs, HMI/Touch Screens, SCADA and industrial network systems
  • Design and develop bespoke control systems for automation projects
  • Work closely with panel builders to ensure systems are built to specification
  • Carry out on-site installation and commissioning activities
  • Provide service, support and fault finding on existing customer systems
  • Manage projects through all stages from concept, design and build to final handover
  • Liaise directly with customers and suppliers throughout project delivery
  • Train and mentor junior engineers and other team members
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time and to the highest standards
  • Travel throughout the UK and internationally to support installations and commissioning activities

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Strong experience within industrial control systems
  • PLC programming experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens systems
  • Knowledge of industrial networks including EtherNET/IP and ProfiNET
  • Experience working within manufacturing or automation environments
  • Strong fault finding and problem-solving abilities
  • Able to work independently and manage multiple projects
  • Excellent communication skills and customer-facing experience
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel regularly within the UK and overseas (approximately 50%)
  • Positive attitude with a hands-on approach and strong attention to detail

Desirable Experience:

  • Robotics programming
  • EPLAN electrical design
  • Packaging systems
  • Plastics processing machinery
  • Previous experience working internationally
  • Additional language skills

  • Monday - Thursday: 08:00 - 17:00
  • Friday: 08:00 - 14:00
