Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Technician to support site operations on a 4-month contract basis. This role is outside IR35 and is well suited to contractors with a strong hands-on mechanical background. The position is mechanically biased, with a strong focus on valves, mechanical repairs, and plant maintenance, alongside basic electrical fault-finding support where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive mechanical maintenance on site plant and equipment.
- Diagnose faults and complete strip-downs, repairs, and rebuilds of valves, pumps, and mechanical assemblies.
- Perform mechanical repairs on pipework, fittings, and associated systems.
- Respond efficiently to breakdowns to minimise downtime.
- Support basic electrical fault-finding on motors, sensors, and control equipment where necessary.
- Assist with installation, commissioning, and modification of mechanical equipment.
- Accurately complete maintenance documentation.
- Ensure all work is carried out in line with health & safety, confined space, and permit-to-work procedures.
- Work collaboratively with site teams to maintain equipment reliability.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Maintenance Technician within an industrial, process, or manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical skillset with hands-on experience working on valves, pumps, pipework, and mechanical repairs.
- Experience fault-finding, repairing, and maintaining mechanical systems.
- Basic electrical awareness.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and manuals.
- Relevant mechanical qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
Advantageous Certifications
- IPAF (Powered Access Licence)
- Confined Space Certification
Desirable Experience
- Experience in process, utilities, water, energy, or heavy industrial environments.
- Familiarity with CMMS systems.
- Experience working on shutdowns, outages, or project-based maintenance work.
