The Role:

As a Junior Power Earthing Estimator, you will take a more active role in preparing estimates and supporting tender submissions while continuing to develop technical and commercial expertise. You will work closely with engineers and senior estimators to deliver accurate and compliant costings. This role is ideal for someone with early industry experience looking to progress into a fully independent estimator position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for earthing and power engineering projects with support from senior staff.
  • Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and project documentation to define scope.
  • Quantify materials, labour, plant, and subcontractor requirements.
  • Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Assist in the development of tender submissions, including technical clarifications and assumptions.
  • Contribute to identifying project risks and value engineering opportunities.
  • Participate in site visits and surveys to support estimating activities.
  • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to ensure technical alignment.
  • Maintain and update pricing databases and estimating tools.
  • Support project handover to delivery teams.

What You’ll Need:

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including:
  • Maths (Grade 4/C or above)
  • English (Grade 4/C or above)
  • Science or a technical subject (preferred)
  • Further education (e.g., Level 3 qualification, apprenticeship, or HNC in Electrical Engineering or Construction) is desirable.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a construction environment.
  • Minimum 2 years’ practical on-site experience in construction is essential.
  • Basic understanding of earthing systems, electrical installations, or power engineering principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Proficient using Excel.
  • Good numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills for working with internal teams and suppliers.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Exposure to estimating or cost-management tools is advantageous.
  • Electrical or engineering qualification desirable.
