Omega Red Group is a leading provider of earthing, lightning protection, and power engineering solutions across the UK. We are seeking a skilled Estimator, who specialises in Power Earthing to join our growing team. This role is critical in supporting the delivery of technically robust, commercially competitive proposals for major infrastructure, utilities, renewable energy, and industrial projects.
The Role
You will work closely with engineering, design, and commercial teams to develop accurate costings, assess technical requirements, and ensure our solutions meet industry standards and client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates for earthing and power engineering projects, including materials, labour, plant, subcontractor costs, and risk allowances.
- Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and site information to determine project scope and required earthing solutions.
- Collaborate with engineering and design teams to ensure estimates reflect accurate technical methodologies and compliance with relevant standards (e.g., BS EN 50522, BS 7430).
- Conduct site assessments (where required) to gather data influencing design and cost.
- Develop tender submissions, including technical clarifications, assumptions, and value-engineering options.
- Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations and validate pricing.
- Support project handover by communicating estimate details to delivery teams.
- Maintain and update cost databases, pricing models, and estimation tools.
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities within tender packages.
- Contribute to continuous improvement in estimating processes and technical accuracy.
Skills & Experience
- Background in earthing, power engineering, electrical contracting, or utilities infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of earthing system design principles, soil resistivity, and installation methods.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation.
- Experience using estimating software or cost-management tools.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills for liaising with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
- Relevant engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) is advantageous but not essential with strong industry experience.
