The Role: As a Lightning Protection Test Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring lightning protection and buried earthing systems remain safe, compliant and fully operational. Working in a field-based capacity across London and surrounding areas, you will undertake inspections, surveys and testing on a variety of commercial, industrial and construction sites. You'll use specialist equipment to assess system performance, identify defects and provide professional recommendations to clients. This role is ideal for a technically minded engineer who enjoys working independently, delivering high-quality service and maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out the survey, installation, testing, inspection, and maintenance of a wide range of height safety systems.
  • Lead projects on-site, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
  • Mentor and support engineers and operatives, helping to develop technical skills and industry knowledge.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and build positive relationships with clients.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation through the effective use of risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work.
  • Carry out and support pre-tender surveys, providing technical input and recommendations to the Estimating team.
  • Produce accurate inspection and testing reports, clearly identifying defects and recommending remedial actions.
  • Install and commission a variety of height safety equipment in accordance with industry standards and manufacturer requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the business and contribute to maintaining operational excellence.

What You’ll Need:

  • Previous experience within lightning protection or a related electrical/earthing discipline.
  • Working knowledge of relevant lightning protection standards and regulations.
  • Experience in a field-based engineering, testing or inspection role.
  • Strong attention to detail and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and manage your workload effectively.
  • Experience within construction, engineering or other technical environments.
  • Confidence using specialist testing equipment and digital reporting systems.
  • Flexible approach to travel and site-based work.
  • Full UK driving licence (essential).
