Omega Red Group is offering a two-year apprenticeship, leading to a Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Accessing and Rigging Occupations: Lightning Conductor Engineer. Omega Red is a specialist, design, installation, testing and maintenance contractor, within the electrical earthing, lightning protection and height safety market. Operating nationally, the business focuses on providing top quality safety-critical services for the protection of people, buildings and infrastructure.
The Role
As an Apprentice Lightning Protection Operative, you’ll work alongside qualified Engineers, learning how to install, maintain, and repair lightning protection systems on a variety of client sites. This dynamic role offers a mix of practical experience, teamwork, and technical skill-building, setting you up for a rewarding career in electrical earthing and lightning protection.
The Apprenticeship Experience
- Hands-on training with experienced Lightning Protection Engineers
- Structured class-based learning through the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB)
- Block study periods requiring occasional overnight stays
- At least 20% of your working hours spent on dedicated training and study

What You’ll Need
- GCSEs in English & Maths (Grade 4 or higher) – Essential
- Full UK Driving Licence – Preferable but not essential (we offer financial support towards your driving test if you’re still learning!)
- Strong communication skills – Ability to follow instructions and report back clearly
- Attention to detail – Ensuring all work meets high safety and accuracy standards
- Organisational skills – Time management and prioritising tasks effectively
- Problem-solving mindset – Adapting to new challenges and working efficiently
- Physical fitness with a head for heights – Comfortable working outdoors and at elevated levels
