Manufacturing Engineer – Crowborough, East Sussex

Full‑time, permanent, onsite. Salary £40,000 – £48,000 plus bonus and excellent benefits.

Overview

Servomex, a global leader in gas analysis, is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join the Technical Centre in Crowborough.

The role focuses on process improvements, equipment optimisation, new product introductions and lean manufacturing activities that drive operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Engineering and Production teams to ensure products are designed for efficient manufacture.
  • Lead and support strategic improvement projects, including production line expansions and equipment upgrades.
  • Develop and implement manufacturing plans for New Product Introductions (NPI).
  • Design, commission and validate production tooling, fixtures and jigs.
  • Conduct and maintain Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
  • Support the development of lean manufacturing processes and production cells.
  • Create and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Train and support production teams on new equipment, processes and tools.
  • Drive Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.
  • Facilitate Value Stream Mapping activities to identify waste and improve process flow.
  • Support manufacturing excellence through robust risk assessment and process validation activities.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Manufacturing Engineering experience within a regulated or technical environment.
  • Experience conducting Risk Assessments and Hazard Analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience specifying, developing or improving tooling, fixtures and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills.
  • Understanding of industrial controls and safety systems.
  • Familiarity with Solid Works or other CAD tools.
  • Knowledge of PFMEA and process validation.

Desirable Experience & Skills

  • Exposure to Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) methodologies.
  • Programming or automation experience (Python, C/C++, VBA, SQL, MATLAB, PLC Programming, Lab VIEW).

Qualifications

  • Degree‑qualified (or equivalent) in Manufacturing Engineering, a related engineering discipline, or a scientific discipline such as Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Physics, supported by relevant engineering experience.
