Would you like to be part of a team that enables business growth? Do you enjoy working as part of an enthusiastic, passionate, and collaborative team? Join our Tax Team.

The Tax Team is continuing to expand in response to the demands of a fast-growing business both domestically and internationally, coupled with an increasingly demanding control and governance environment. Led by the Head of Tax, who reports into the Group Financial Controller, the current team of six work closely with all business operations teams and advise commercial teams on any tax matters impacting their respective areas. While predominantly UK based, the business has an ever-increasing international presence and continues to expand into new regions through legal entities, branches and additional VAT registrations, across the USA, EMEA and APAC regions. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a high performing team who are at the forefront of the business' expansion plans.

Your Role

This is an exciting, varied and commercially focused indirect tax role, offering the opportunity to work at the heart of a fast-growing, multinational business. You'll partner with teams right across Softcat from our wider sales force, who rely on practical VAT and indirect tax guidance for customer deals, to our import and export compliance teams supporting overseas shipments, as well as finance and operations colleagues in the UK and across our international business. No two days will look the same: alongside core compliance responsibilities, you'll be helping the business navigate real-time tax questions, improve processes and support decisions that enable growth.

While Softcat has an established UK VAT set up, the real growth area for this role is our expanding multinational footprint. As our operations continue to scale across new territories, the role will play an important part in supporting VAT, sales tax and indirect tax compliance across those markets. There will also be opportunities to get involved in future tax projects linked to Softcat's growth and acquisition ambitions, where new jurisdictions, systems and commercial models will bring fresh challenges and exciting learning opportunities. To support this journey, we have recently implemented an automated indirect tax solution within our ERP system, and this role will help maintain, enhance and embed that solution alongside our IT team.

As tax authorities increasingly move towards e-invoicing, e-reporting and digital compliance mandates across Europe and beyond, the role will also support the Indirect Tax Lead in preparing Softcat for these changes. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, collaboration and problem-solving, and who wants to build experience in international indirect tax, tax technology and business transformation.

As a Senior VAT Analyst, you'll be responsible for:

  • Take ownership of the review and submission of VAT returns in the UK, EMEA and APAC regions.
  • Review and improve processes around the VAT return and EC Sales list reporting.
  • Provide ad-hoc VAT support to our sales force team on specific deals, particularly relating to non-UK sales and purchases.
  • Assist with the improvement of our automated VAT system.
  • Train operational teams in indirect tax matters, aiding ‘right first time' processing of VAT.
  • Support and improve responses to indirect tax evasion risk across the organisation.
  • Build relationships with external UK and Multinational tax advisory teams.
  • Engage with external advisors on more complex indirect tax matters, as required.

We'd love you to have:

  • An accounting or tax qualification (ACCA/ACA/ICAS/CTA).
  • Experience of working in either in house or UK top tier practice.
  • An interest in indirect taxes, systems and multinational.
  • Excellent written, verbal, communication and thought skills.
  • Desire to work in a fast paced and often ambiguous environment.
  • A strong team player who can collaborate effectively within the Tax Team and wider business across all levels of seniority.
  • An appetite to learn, improve processes and make our business function more efficiently.
  • Professional and proactive approach with a drive to succeed and progress.

We also acknowledge that the confidence gap and imposter syndrome are a real thing and can get in the way of us meeting fantastic talent, so please don't hesitate to apply – we would love to hear from you!

  • Hybrid working - 3 days in the office, 2 days working from home.

  • Flexibility around school pick up and drop offs.
