We're looking for a General Foreperson to strengthen delivery across our Regional Civil Engineering (ORCE) work in the South West. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll help drive consistent standards across multiple schemes—supporting site teams to deliver safely, to programme, and to a high quality, while keeping customers and communities informed and considered. This role is permanent, full-time, supporting South West frameworks and contracts (including Somerset frameworks) and based around the South West area with travel to sites as required.

You'll support the site management team to plan, coordinate and deliver works efficiently—often across more than one project—helping ensure work is carried out safely, profitably, and in line with programme and quality requirements. In the role, you'll typically be responsible for:

  • Leading day-to-day site activity and supervising delivery teams and suppliers to maintain performance and efficiency.
  • Supporting the Site Manager / Project Manager, including deputising when needed, to keep delivery running smoothly.
  • Embedding a strong safety culture, ensuring adherence to safe systems of work and encouraging a “everyone home safe, every day” mindset.
  • Driving a right-first-time approach—maintaining quality, closing out actions properly, and keeping delivery aligned to customer requirements.
  • Keeping a clear focus on the customer experience—supporting engagement at key stages, seeking feedback, and acting quickly where improvements are needed.
  • Coordinating site resources and supporting planning to help achieve agreed programmes across frameworks and contract work.

We offer a competitive rewards package, including a Company Car scheme, Private Healthcare, Pension, Life Assurance cover, 25 days Annual Leave (and a day off for your birthday). You'll also have access to Hybrid working where possible, an enhanced Paternity & Maternity package and the opportunity to develop yourself personally and professionally.

You're a confident, practical leader who sets the tone on site—calm under pressure, clear in communication, and consistent in standards. You take pride in delivering safe, high-quality work and building positive working relationships with teams, clients and supply chain. You'll suit this role if you:

  • Enjoy being visible on site, coaching others and raising standards through good habits and simple, consistent control.
  • Think ahead—spotting issues early and working with the management team to keep delivery on track.
  • Are customer-aware and understand the importance of community impact, feedback, and reputation on live civils/highways schemes.

You'll bring proven experience as a General Foreperson / Foreperson / Site Supervisor delivering civils and highways works, ideally from a Tier 1 or Tier 2 contracting background. Experience working across frameworks and standalone contracts, supervising multiple workstreams and maintaining consistent standards across sites. Strong understanding of safe systems of work, quality control, and coordinating labour, plant and supply chain to deliver to programme. Confidence to deputise for the Site Manager when required and provide visible leadership on site. Flexibility to work across the South West, supporting frameworks such as Somerset and other regional contracts as needed.

Essential / desirable tickets & qualifications include:

  • SMSTS or SSSTS
  • CSCS Card (Gold Supervisor or Black Manager preferred)
  • First Aid at Work
  • NRSWA (desirable for highways work)
  • Temporary Works Supervisor / Coordinator (desirable)
  • CAT & Genny
  • Asbestos Awareness
  • Full UK driving licence
