Olivian House is a forward-thinking and values-driven organisation dedicated to providing exceptional, therapeutic residential care for children and young people aged 10–17 with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD) and mild learning disabilities (LD). We are seeking a committed and motivated Senior Residential Support Worker to join our team in our three-bedded children's residential home. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting young people to achieve positive outcomes while developing your leadership skills.

With clear pathways for career progression, you will be given the opportunity to progress to Deputy Children's Home Manager, subject to performance, alongside additional incentives.

About the Role

As a Senior Residential Support Worker, you will provide high-quality care and support to children and young people, acting as a role model and leading shifts to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the home. You will work closely with the management team, supervise junior staff, and contribute to creating a nurturing, structured, and therapeutic environment that enables children to feel safe, valued, and supported.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise shifts, ensuring consistency, safety, and high standards of care
  • Provide direct support to children and young people, helping them to develop independence, resilience, and positive life skills
  • Implement and review personalised care plans tailored to each child’s individual needs
  • Support, guide, and mentor Residential Support Workers, ensuring professional practice and development
  • Uphold safeguarding practices, reporting concerns in line with policies and regulatory requirements
  • Encourage and facilitate education, hobbies, and community engagement for young people
  • Contribute to Ofsted inspections and ensure compliance with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and incident reports
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, colleagues, external professionals, and local authorities

What we’re looking for

  • A minimum of one year’s experience working in a children’s residential care setting, ideally with some shift-leading or supervisory responsibilities
  • A recognised Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or working towards (or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, child development, and trauma-informed care
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Flexibility to work a rota pattern, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-ins
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
  • Compassionate, resilient, and committed to making a difference in the lives of vulnerable young people
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff
  • Strong IT and record-keeping skills
  • Emotional intelligence and creativity in supporting young people with complex needs
  • A proactive, solution-focused attitude with the ability to remain calm under pressure
