Every successful manufacturing organisation has this kind of person within its leadership team, a mediator between factory operations and the GM/MD. Their excellent manufacturing operations experience allows them to make business critical decisions in real time moments on the shop floor yet are also able to craft and execute strategic medium to long-term plans. They are proven at leading, mentoring, coaching – whatever you want to call it all those around them. They take time to know their people and work relentlessly to help them flourish in their roles, doing whatever it takes to build an efficient manufacturing workforce that delivers excellence constantly.
This is the person we are looking for. Our client manufactures products for some of the most instantly recognisable brands and due to a recent retirement have tasked us to source and secure this critical Senior Operations Manager appointment.
Fast paced manufacturing experience is essential for this role. Tight deadlines, lots of moving parts, complex manufacturing processes and workforce management of more than 250 full time staff mean you will be juggling lots of spinning plates – but you thrive in that kind of environment anyway. Being on that knife edge is what gets the best of you. You don’t shirk pressure; you rise and stare it down and say, ‘bring it on!’. And you will do all this by building up and developing those around you. You will lead, educate, and mentor members of your direct team and will be the example for others to follow. Success will be measured not solely on what YOU have achieved but what your TEAM achieves.
Now, the boring (but important) prerequisite list:
- Leadership of a minimum 200 people.
- Your core discipline will be production/operations and/or engineering early in your career.
- Excellent numeracy skills. This means you will easily be able to bring factory data to life and “tell the story” of that data to those not native to the lingo.
- Manufacturing continuous improvement experience – TIMWOODS / L6S etc. all of which lead to improvements in production quality/uplifts and OEE.
