Senior Communications Planner

About OLIVER

OLIVER builds bespoke, embedded agency teams within client organisations, combining strategic insight, creativity, and hands-on execution to drive commercial and marketing impact. We are committed to helping clients achieve business growth through innovative communications, sector knowledge, and actionable strategies.

About the Role

We are seeking a Communications Planner to join our strategic partnership with a prominent international B2B events organisation, supporting their North American division. As a vital member of a 12-person team, you will contribute significantly to achieving key performance indicators, focusing on delivering digital first, cross-channel strategies and communication plans that drive commercial growth for their brand.

In this contract role, you serve as both an architect and executor—designing communication plans, developing propositions, and upskilling client teams for measurable success. You will work across four product families in diverse sectors, directly influencing business outcomes and team performance.

Our client is a leader in their industry, known for their ambition and innovation. They seek a collaborative partner to help them achieve their strategic goals, and this position is central to fulfilling those objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Immerse in the business, rapidly developing commercial and sector understanding across four product families.
  • Translate commercial data and business insights into clear, actionable communications strategy and market propositions.
  • Design and refine customer value propositions, ensuring distinct and commercially relevant positioning within each sector.
  • Comms Planning & Implementation:
    • Convert strategic priorities into robust, multi-channel communications plans—across digital, social, email, events, paid and owned channels.
    • Tailor plans to the needs and behaviours of B2B audiences, driving engagement and supporting business objectives.
    • Oversee campaign delivery, ensuring alignment of messaging with business goals and effective activation across all touchpoints.
  • Client Team Upskilling:
    • Coach and develop client teams, building planning and executional capability through knowledge transfer and on-the-ground support.
    • Lead by doing—actively participate in the strategic and operational work, modelling best practice and problem solving in real time.
  • Performance Measurement & Continuous Improvement:
    • Establish KPIs and regular cadence for tracking communications activities and team performance.
    • Evaluate results, extract insights, and adapt strategies to maximise commercial and marketing outcomes, communicating learnings and successes clearly to stakeholders, fostering a culture of transparency and progress.
  • Working in tandem with senior brand, content, strategy, analytics, and commercial leads to deliver unified, business-focused campaigns.
  • Champion the ethical adoption of AI and new technology to optimise planning processes, efficiency, and effectiveness.

What We’re Looking For

  • Significant experience (6+ years), ideally spanning complex sector portfolios.
  • Proven ability to translate business and commercial data into actionable strategies and tailored propositions.
  • Demonstrated excellence in designing and executing multi-channel comms plans linked to business KPIs.
  • Experience coaching, developing, and tracking high-performance teams, with a structured approach to capability-building and performance reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills: adept at using commercial and campaign data to drive improvements and innovation.
  • Skilled collaborator, able to unite cross-functional teams around shared objectives.
  • Tech-savvy, with an appetite for ethical, practical application of AI and emerging martech tools.
  • Adaptable, resilient, proactive—able to shift from strategy to delivery as the situation demands.

Key Measures of Success

  • Uplift in client team performance, capability, and strategic acumen, evidenced through weekly tracking and feedback.
  • Creation and delivery of effective communication plans and customer propositions that generate measurable business results.
  • Successful commercial outcomes and improved marketing impact across all four product families.
  • Clear, actionable reporting and insights that drive ongoing refinement and progress.

Values

  • Results First: Every activity is aligned to business and commercial objectives.
  • Collaboration: Working as one with team members and clients to achieve shared success.
  • Transparency: Regular, honest assessment and communication of performance.
  • Continuous Growth: Commitment to team improvement, sector learning, and process innovation.

This contract provides the chance to shape communication strategy, market propositions, and client team performance across multiple sectors.
