Oliver James has partnered with a global financial services organisation with a long-established presence in the City of London to recruit an IT Infrastructure Assistant Manager on an initial 12-month fixed-term contract, with potential for a permanent role for the right candidate.
This role is well suited to an experienced infrastructure engineer looking to step into a senior, hands-on role with real accountability and exposure to governance, audit, and enterprise-scale technology.
Key Responsibilities- Own and operate infrastructure vulnerability and patch management processes across servers, virtualisation, and endpoints, ensuring remediation aligns with security policies and SLAs.
- Collaborate closely with Security Operations teams to assess vulnerabilities, prioritise remediation, and support risk acceptance or exception processes where required.
- Plan, test, and implement patches and remediation activities through formal change and release management.
- Design, maintain, and enhance automated patching and remediation using tools such as SCCM/ConfigMgr, Intune, and PowerShell.
- Manage and support Microsoft server platforms including Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, PKI, Exchange, and Microsoft 365.
- Lead VMware estate management, including cluster design, lifecycle management, availability, and performance.
Experience in IT infrastructure or systems engineering roles, ideally within a regulated environment such as banking or financial services.
Strong hands-on experience with enterprise vulnerability and patch management tools (e.g. SCCM/ConfigMgr, Tenable, Runecast, PatchMyPC).
In-depth experience across Microsoft Server technologies, Active Directory, Group Policy, Exchange, Microsoft 365, and VMware vSphere.
Proven expertise in vulnerability remediation, security baselines, endpoint hardening, and identity/access management.
Strong PowerShell scripting and automation capability.
Experience operating within formal change, release, and incident management frameworks (ITIL).
Ability to lead root cause analysis and deliver permanent fixes for complex infrastructure issues.
Microsoft certifications, VMware certifications, and ITIL Foundation (or equivalent experience).
Experience with hybrid cloud environments and identity platforms (Azure, Microsoft Entra).
Security certifications such as Security+ or CISSP.
Experience with PAM solutions (e.g. CyberArk), SSO/MFA platforms, and PKI/SSL management.
Exposure to audit, regulatory, and compliance-driven environments.
Experience driving automation, process improvement, and operational best practices.
Salary - Up to £75k per annum.
Location - City of London (2 days per week onsite).
