We’re looking for an experienced Java Developer to join a fast-paced financial services organisation on an initial 6-month contract. This is a fully remote role (UK-based, London engagement) offering £500 per day outside IR35.
You’ll play a key role in modernising legacy platforms and building high-quality APIs that power critical financial systems.
The Role
You’ll work within a collaborative engineering team focused on modernising core systems and delivering scalable, secure services. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys improving legacy codebases while also designing and building new API-driven services.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop robust Java-based backend services
- Build and enhance RESTful APIs used across multiple business platforms
- Contribute to legacy system modernisation and cloud-ready architecture
- Work closely with architects, DevOps, and product teams
- Implement best practices for performance, security, and scalability
- Support CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience with Java (Java 11+)
- Proven background in API development (REST / microservices)
- Experience modernising legacy systems
- Solid experience within financial services / banking / fintech
- Familiarity with Spring Boot and modern Java frameworks
- Experience with cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP)
- Strong understanding of software engineering best practices
- Comfortable working in remote, distributed teams
Desirable
- Experience with containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes)
- Messaging technologies (Kafka/RabbitMQ)
- Exposure to domain-driven design or event-driven architecture
