The UK Financial Controller will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and timely delivery of month-end financial reporting across the region. This role will focus on the standardization, simplification, and continuous improvement of financial reporting processes to enhance accuracy, reduce cycle times, and support better business decision-making. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in month-end closing processes, financial reporting, and process optimization.

Responsibilities
  • Month-End Reporting: Lead and manage the monthly close process for the UK region; Review and validate financial data, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance with internal policies and external regulations. Work closely with regional management accountants to ensure the timely submission of financial information from all entities within the region in line with Group reporting timetables. Ensure monthly balance sheets are completed and reviewed (whether monthly/ quarterly) e.g. Accruals, Prepayments, Pension, VAT.
  • Process Standardization & Simplification: Identify, document, and implement best practices for month-end close procedures to standardize and simplify reporting processes across all entities within the UK region. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce month-end close cycle time, eliminate bottlenecks, and increase operational efficiency. Collaborate with other finance functions (FP&A, group, tax) to ensure alignment and integration of processes.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Run regional reporting packs and provide variance analysis, commentary on key drivers, and actionable insights for senior management. Support ad-hoc reporting requests and analysis as needed.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance: Strengthen internal controls surrounding the financial reporting process, ensuring compliance with company policies. Continuously assess and improve financial processes to ensure accuracy and minimize risk.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with regional and local finance teams, group finance, FP&A and business partners to foster a culture of collaboration and ensure consistent implementation of process changes. Support initiatives to ensure that all stakeholders are aligned on standardized processes and expectations.
  • Month-End Automation & Efficiency: Identify opportunities for automation of the financial reporting processes to streamline month-end close. Provide feedback and recommendation.
  • Audit: Supporting the FD with the delivery of year end Audit information. Liaising with auditors as well as internal stakeholders to provide the required information.
What you need to be great in this role:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • Professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA, or CIMA required as well as a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in audit, financial control, month-end reporting, and process improvement as well as experience in a Senior Finance Manager or FC role.
  • Proven track record in streamlining financial processes and driving standardization across multiple entities or countries.
  • Strong expertise in financial reporting, month-end close procedures, and variance analysis.
  • Experience using NetSuite and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Line Management experience. Minimum of 3 years experience line managing a minimum of a team of 3 people.
  • Experience in process automation or digital tools implementation is a plus.
