We are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced and resilient Turnaround Manager to lead the immediate stabilisation and improvement of a regulated residential service. This is initially a 6-month fixed-term contract, with the opportunity to progress into a permanent Registered Manager position for the right candidate. This is a challenging yet highly rewarding opportunity for a confident leader who can quickly establish operational control, strengthen team culture, and drive sustainable improvements. The successful candidate will be an experienced Registered Manager who is ready to hit the ground running and make an immediate impact within a service undergoing positive change.

About the role

As Turnaround Manager, you will take full operational responsibility for stabilising the service while preparing it for long-term success. You will provide visible, hands-on leadership, ensuring the service delivers safe, person-centred support while maintaining full compliance with CQC standards and safeguarding requirements. You will work closely with the existing team to embed positive cultural change, improve quality standards, strengthen governance, and build staff confidence. This role requires a leader who enjoys being present within the service, leading by example, and supporting teams through periods of change. The service supports 27 young adults aged 17–21 who are enrolled on a three-year educational programme within a specialist college setting. Approximately 30 students live on site, and the successful candidate will work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure positive outcomes for every individual.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take immediate operational control of the service, ensuring stability, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Act as the designated safeguarding lead, ensuring robust safeguarding systems and responses are in place.
  • Address regulatory shortfalls and implement improvement and action plans in line with CQC expectations.
  • Provide strong leadership across staffing, including rota management, supervision, performance, and culture change.
  • Stabilise day-to-day operations and ensure consistent, safe service delivery.
  • Embed effective governance, quality assurance, and audit systems.
  • Drive improvements in care planning, risk management, and record keeping.
  • Work closely with CQC, local authorities, commissioners, and external professionals.
  • Lead performance management processes and challenge poor practice where required.
  • Ensure staff are supported through change, while maintaining high expectations and accountability.
  • Develop sustainable systems and contribute to structured handover and succession planning.

About You

  • Significant experience as a Registered Manager or senior operational leader within a CQC-regulated service.
  • Ability to take immediate ownership of a service and lead operational improvement from day one.
  • Experience leading teams through organisational or cultural change.
  • Confident using electronic care management systems within a largely paperless environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of CQC regulations, safeguarding, governance, and quality assurance.
  • A visible, hands-on leadership style with excellent communication and decision-making skills.
  • Proven ability to motivate teams, challenge poor practice, and embed positive, sustainable change.
  • Eligibility to register with CQC (or currently registered) desirable.
  • Level 5 Leadership and Management qualification (or equivalent) desirable.
