OLG Recruitment are currently looking for a Process Control Engineer for our client located in Stallingborough. This is a contract opportunity for approximately 24 months, with potential extension.

Role Purpose

The DCS Contractor will provide specialist control system engineering support on a Top Tier COMAH site. The role involves configuration, troubleshooting, modification, and optimisation of DeltaV systems to ensure safe, reliable and compliant operation of a critical process plant. The contractor will support ongoing project work, system upgrades, lifecycle management, and day‑to‑day operational support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Support
    • Provide expert‑level troubleshooting and fault resolution on the DeltaV DCS platform.
    • Support 24/7 manufacturing operations through timely response to control system issues.
    • Fix, tune, or modify control loops, continuous logic, graphics, alarms, historian tags, and sequence configuration.
    • Conduct system health checks, backups, patching, and routine maintenance activities.
  • Project Engineering
    • Deliver control system changes from concept through to implementation, including design, configuration, documentation, FAT/SAT, and commissioning.
    • Support with the sites migration projects from ABB System 6 to Honeywell Experion.
    • Collaborate with process engineering, I&E, safety, and project teams to deliver robust automation solutions.
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Ensure all automation work meets COMAH and site safety standards.
    • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date technical documentation, cause & effect diagrams, and functional design specifications.
    • Participate in HAZOP, LOPA, alarm rationalisation system assessments.
    • Implement changes under the sites Management of Change (MoC) procedures.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Identify opportunities to improve control strategies, reduce downtime, enhance product quality, and increase plant reliability.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Technical Skills
    • Minimum 5+ years’ experience with the Emerson DeltaV DCS system (configuration, troubleshooting, commissioning).
    • Experience using Honeywell Experion and/or ABB System 6 would be advantageous.
    • Strong understanding of industrial process automation, control theory, PID tuning, and batch/sequential logic.
    • Experience with OPC, historians (e.g., PI), alarm management, communication protocols (Modbus) and networked control architectures.
    • Ability to navigate system backups, patching, server/console management, and system security principles.
  • Industry Experience
    • Experience working on Top Tier COMAH sites, chemical processing, petrochemical or similar high‑hazard environments.
  • Education & Certifications
    • Vendor certification (Emerson DeltaV).
  • Competencies
    • Strong problem‑solving skills under pressure in a live plant environment.
    • Ability to work autonomously and manage conflicting priorities.
    • Excellent communication skills with operators, engineers and contractors.
    • High attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance.
    • Adaptable and able to integrate quickly into an established team.
