E&I Maintenance Technician – Temporary Contract
Location: Royston
Contract: Temporary, approximately 3–6 months
Shift Pattern: 5 and 4 block rotation
Hours: 12.5-hour shifts, 6:30am–7:00pm, including weekends
About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced E&I Technician to join a precious metals refinery chemical plant based in Royston on a temporary contract for approximately 3–6 months.
The successful candidate will provide electrical and instrumentation support across the plant, assisting with breakdowns, fault finding, troubleshooting, maintenance and installation activities.
This is a hands‑on role within a chemical processing environment, where strong knowledge of COMPEX and ATEX requirements is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide electrical and instrumentation support across the refinery and chemical plant.
- Respond to plant breakdowns and assist with fault finding and troubleshooting.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical and instrumentation issues to minimise plant downtime.
- Support maintenance activities across electrical, instrumentation and associated plant systems.
- Carry out installation, modification and maintenance work as required.
- Work safely within a hazardous chemical-processing environment.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with site safety procedures, permits and relevant standards.
- Support the wider maintenance team with planned and reactive maintenance activities.
- Identify potential equipment issues and contribute to preventative maintenance.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation relating to maintenance and engineering activities.
- Work collaboratively with operations, maintenance and engineering teams to ensure reliable plant operation.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience working as an E&I Technician / Electrical & Instrumentation Technician.
- Previous experience within a chemical, process, refinery or similarly hazardous industrial environment.
- COMPEX knowledge and experience – essential.
- ATEX knowledge and experience – essential.
- Strong electrical fault-finding and troubleshooting experience.
- Instrumentation and control systems experience.
- Experience supporting breakdowns and reactive maintenance.
- Experience with electrical and instrumentation installation and maintenance.
- Strong understanding of safe working practices within hazardous areas.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider maintenance team.
- Willingness and ability to work a 12.5-hour shift rota, including weekends.
