Role Summary

This position uses discretion and independent judgement to develop and implement programs that will enrich the law school. The incumbent ensures law students succeed academically, personally, and professionally; creates a climate that is inclusive and welcoming; develops and administers the law school's student affairs budget; serves as the primary contact for student counseling and intervention efforts for the law school; and supervises and coordinates the work of support staff.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Provides leadership, strategic direction, project management, and fiscal oversight for the Student Affairs office.
  • Serves on the Senior Staff Administration Team and collaborates with the Dean, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Admissions Office, the Career Service Office, the Academic Support Program, the Registrar, the Development Office, Alumni Affairs, and other administrative personnel.
  • Works effectively through faculty governance processes cooperating with individual faculty.
  • Engages in collaboration with all units as needed to facilitate the successful execution of the duties and responsibilities of this role.
  • Builds and manages programming for orientation and other events involving law faculty and administrators, practitioners, bar associations, university administrative personnel, and law school student organizations aligning with the School of Law’s commitment to access, opportunity, and engagement.
  • Plans, organizes, and supervises law school graduation.
  • Supervises, coordinates, advises, and promotes student organizations including law school student government.
  • Assists student organizations in establishing appropriate governance structures and in complying with all law school and university requirements.
  • Plans, organizes, and oversees wellness programming for the student body.
  • Maintains an understanding of crisis management and serves as the primary contact for law students regarding sensitive and confidential matters, counseling, and intervention efforts.
  • Serves as an advisor for the law school Conduct Board and provides support for law school student discipline structures.
  • Coordinates and supervises student disability services at the law school including communicating to students regarding disability issues.
  • Arranges for classroom and exam accommodations.
  • Assists students seeking university services including financial aid and other matters.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and recommends policy changes as needed for relevant school of law policies.
  • Supports the law school’s efforts to attract and serve a diverse student body and to promote an inclusive environment.
  • Supervises and coordinates the work of any assigned personnel.
  • Achieves and maintains a high level of professional development by attending conferences and facilitating ongoing education of the faculty and staff regarding student affairs and student life issues.
  • Represents the law school on various committees and attends relevant campus events.
  • Maintains a high level of multicultural competence and demonstrates an awareness of the needs of underrepresented groups.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.

Essential Functions

  • Implements company policies, procedures, and initiatives to ensure efficient operations.
  • Monitors performance against operational goals and evaluates and enhances current operational systems.
  • Develops reporting and auditing processes used to analyze operational effectiveness and reviews performance reports from team leaders.
  • Coordinates operations with other functions.

Minimum Education / Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience: Six (6) years experience with three (3) years supervisory experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Experience: Two (2) years experience related to the above described duties.
