Old Swinford Hospital is one of the country’s leading state boarding schools. A large number of the School’s students are boarders who come from a wide range of backgrounds in the UK and also from the EU and overseas. A third of our pupils are day pupils, who usually go home after lessons, unless they are involved in sport or music, CCF or DofE. The School has now become fully co-educational. OSH is a calm place to work. It is inclusive, tolerant and welcoming. The atmosphere is supportive and orderly, and it is also very relaxed because for many of our pupils their school is also their home. Parents, pupils and staff are all on the same side and our pupils want to learn before going out into the wider world and making their own contribution to it.
We have had two very favourable Ofsted visits, one for boarding and one for curriculum. We enjoy a very good academic reputation and regularly feature in the lists of the most academically successful maintained schools. Job Specification
The Cleaner shall:
- Ensure that a high level of cleanliness is maintained throughout the school on a daily basis
- Be responsible for an area and clean to the frequency and standards set out
- Ensure standards and procedures are adhered to
- Deal with any emergency cleaning call outs throughout the afternoon when required
- Use cleaning materials appropriately, as instructed and economically; inform the Estates Manager when stocks are low
- Ensure that tools and equipment are in good working order, reporting any faults to the Estates Manager
- Contribute to major cleaning tasks during school holidays
- Assist with heavy duty cleaning when required
- Empty and clean bins and remove waste to designated area, including the separation of waste, i.e. recycling
- Clean internal glass and internal and external door glass
- Ensure windows and doors are closed and lights switched off
- Report to the Estates Manager any defects seen which are likely to affect security
- Use electrical and mechanical equipment, floor polishers etc. after appropriate training
- Help out in the laundry department if required
- Help out in the catering department if required
- Use only approved cleaning materials and in accordance with manufacturers printed instructions and COSHH regulations
- Be aware of their responsibilities for Health & Safety of themselves and others
- Complete any training required
- Undertake such other duties as any member of SLT or Site Manager may reasonably require.
Hours and Remuneration of Work
This is a permanent, 30 hours per week, all year round position. The pattern of work will be:
- Monday 07.00 – 12.30
- Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 07.00 – 12.00
- Saturday 07.00 – 11.30
The hourly rate is £12.71. In line with current regulation you will, if you are eligible, be offered a workplace pension through NEST.
