UnHerd is one of the fastest-growing new media outlets in the UK. Covering politics, philosophy and culture in a distinctive “away-from-the-herd” angle, we publish well-known and esteemed writers alongside entirely new voices. This is a terrific opportunity for a highly motivated, well-organised individual to join UnHerd’s strong team of editors. As commissioning editor, they will play a key part in devising, editing and presenting our daily articles, while also contributing to podcast, video and event productions.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Excellent editing skills
- Confident commissioning ability
- Experience of writing and/or editing for a national print or digital publication
- A good eye for new writers
- Ambitious and original ideas
- A flair for ghostwriting
- A strong news sense
The ideal candidate will be expected to:
- Swiftly whip raw copy into shape
- Curate and manage a stable of writers
- Balance on‑edition pieces with longer-term commissions
- Consider how magazine pieces could feed into other sections of UnHerd, including events and YouTube videos
