  • Qualification - Social Work Qualification and registration with Social Work England
  • Casual Car Documentation - The successful candidate will be a designated Casual Car User which means that car journeys may be necessary on an occasional basis, but are not essential to the role. If you do drive, you must always hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work, as well as provide all the appropriate documentation. You will receive an allowance per mile of business use.
  • DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance - this post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (amended in 2013). Appointable candidates will be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Due to a recent expansion and investment, The Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) Team have got a number exciting opportunity to join the team. The Preparing for Adult Team has recently reconfigured into 3 teams which sit within one Service, and although based in adults’ services, align to the team within Children Service. This is to support partnership and seamless transition to adulthood. The 3 teams include:

  • Preparing for Adulthood: Living at Home
  • Preparing for Adulthood: Leaving Care
  • Preparing for Adulthood: Complex

We start to work directly with young people at 16 (although we work with young people in schools from 14). The key to working with young people is to support them to transition and prepare for adulthood, therefore we work with young people who may have Learning Disabilities, Learning Difficulties, Autism, ADHD, Physical disabilities, health needs, and needs due to complex trauma and attachment, this means no day is the same.

We are person centred and aim to prevent reduce and delay the need for long term services, but where they are needed we work with the young person and their circle to ensure the support is right for them, and helps them to achieve the goals they aspire to. The team work across children and adults services, making this a challenging but exciting landscape, especially as there is opportunity to shape the services of the future.

Manchester have also recently invested in a number of Person Centred Planners, who will work alongside the young people, carers and social workers, to develop a person centred preparing for adulthood plan, and will also directly support young people to achieve their plans where required. This means we will soon be able to really start to make a difference in young peoples lives.

We are looking for people who are enthusiastic and compassionate and want to see young people succeed. We want you to champion the rights and needs of young people with SEND, ensuring their voices are heard. We want you to think creatively about how we can support young people to achieve their goals.

There are roles within each team, due to the rapid expansion of the service. We are committed to ensuring strong induction and investment in staff, so initially you will work across all teams to ensure we can skill you up on Preparing for Adulthood, the legislative frameworks and Manchester’s way! This will enable us to match you to teams that you are passionate about and match your skill set. We also offer staff rotations in teams to prevent burnout and ensure staff are not deskilled.

We are based in Etrop Court, Wythenshawe but the people we support live all over the city and sometimes beyond. You will work 35 hours per week in a hybrid manner, sharing time between office and home working as well as out and about on visits. We work on behalf of all adult teams across the city and can really be an instrumental part of someone’s life planning to support them as they become adults.
