About the Candidate
The Preparing for Adult Team is configured into three teams within one service and is based in Adult Services. This supports partnership working and seamless transition to adulthood for young people who are likely to require adult social care support. The three teams are:
- Preparing for Adulthood: Living at Home
- Preparing for Adulthood: Leaving Care
- Preparing for Adulthood: Transitional Safeguarding
We start working directly with young people from the age of 16. We work with young people who may have learning disabilities, learning difficulties, neurodivergence, physical disabilities, complex health needs, or needs arising from complex trauma and attachment. This means no day is the same. We are person-centred and aim to prevent, reduce, and delay the need for long-term services. Where services are required, we work with young people and their circle of support to ensure that support is appropriate and helps them achieve their goals and aspirations. The team works within Adult Services while maintaining an "in-reach" into Children's Services, creating a challenging but exciting practice environment.
We'll use the following essential criteria to decide which candidates to invite to assessment. Use your personal statement to provide evidence of how you meet each requirement, supported by relevant examples:
- Strong working knowledge of the Care Act and Mental Capacity Act, with significant experience in an adult social care role.
- Experience of day-to-day management of staff in a social care setting, including supervision responsibilities.
- Able to effectively lead, support, and develop team members who may be ASYE or new to the role, helping them build on their existing skills and knowledge.
- Previous experience of chairing meetings, including safeguarding and multidisciplinary team meetings, where professional views may differ.
- Experience of using creative and innovative approaches to support people in the least restrictive way possible while promoting positive risk-taking.
- Experience of ensuring the quality of work completed by the team is of a high standard and complies with legal and policy frameworks.
- Social Work degree.
If you're invited to assessment, we'll look at a wider range of role requirements. For more detail, please see the role profile.
