We are seeking to appoint a Level 1 Teaching Assistant to work 1 to 1 within EYFS. Essential and desirable criteria are listed below – please demonstrate how you meet these when you complete the application form.

Essential qualities for the role include:

  • Having experience of working 1:1 with children who have Autism and/or with Communication and Interaction needs.
  • Having an understanding of children with social, communication and interaction needs.
  • Being aware of different ways of communicating and understanding barriers to communication.
  • Be dedicated to working closely with a pupil who requires significant one to one support.

Desirable qualities include:

  • Having experience of speech and language support programmes.
  • Having knowledge of the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.

About the Candidate

  • Experience of working with or caring for children of a relevant age.
  • Numeracy/literacy skills (at a level equivalent to NQF Level 2).
  • Completion of the Teaching Assistant Induction Programme.
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • An understanding of the role of the Teaching Assistant and other professionals working in the classroom.
  • Ability to use relevant technology e.g. photocopier.
  • Understanding of national/foundation stage curriculum and other basic learning programmes/strategies.
  • Basic understanding of child development and learning.
  • Willingness to undertake minor first aid training as appropriate.
  • Tact and diplomacy in all interpersonal relationships with the public, pupils and colleagues at work.
  • Self‑motivation and personal drive to complete tasks to the required timescales and quality standards.
  • The flexibility to adapt to changing workload demands and new school challenges.
  • Personal commitment to ensure that the provision of support is equally accessible and appropriate to meet the diverse needs of the pupils.
  • Personal commitment to continuous self‑development.
