Main Responsibilities

  • Support the leadership team in establishing and sustaining the vision and ethos of the school, based on our cooperative values.
  • Prepare and plan work in line with agreed schemes of work and National Curriculum requirements, demonstrating secure subject knowledge.
  • Take account of pupils’ prior attainment and progress and use this information to inform planning and set future targets.
  • Maintain good order and discipline by modelling positive behaviour and applying the school’s behaviour policies consistently, fostering responsibility and consideration for others.
  • Ensure punctuality and establish a purposeful, focused learning atmosphere in all lessons.
  • Maintain high standards of classroom management, with due regard to health and safety requirements.
  • Set appropriate, challenging and engaging work for all pupils.
  • Identify and work effectively with all groups of vulnerable pupils.
  • Use ICT confidently and effectively to support teaching and learning, including the use of SIMS.
  • Create a stimulating learning environment that actively supports teaching and learning.

Main Responsibilities – Assessment, Recording and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of pupils’ attainment and progress, including the use of SIMS.
  • Mark and return pupils’ work, including homework, within agreed and reasonable timescales.
  • Follow and apply the school’s Marking and Feedback Policy consistently.
  • Carry out assessment activities in line with agreed school assessment procedures.
  • Complete records relating to achievement and behaviour in accordance with school policy.
  • Complete written reports, attend parent evenings as required, and keep parents informed of pupils’ progress, attendance, behaviour, achievements and targets.

Main Responsibilities – Pastoral Responsibilities

  • Monitor and set targets for the academic progress of all pupils in the class.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils so they feel confident seeking support and guidance.
  • Support and contribute to SMSC development across the school.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour and conduct at all times, supporting the consistent application of school policies.
  • Report concerns promptly and appropriately to senior staff.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records on SIMS and actively promote good attendance.
  • Attend and contribute positively to team meetings and staff development activities, engaging constructively in decision‑making processes.
  • Contribute to the delivery of the school’s strategic plan, goals and priorities.
  • Maintain a professional interest in educational initiatives and developments.
  • Communicate and consult effectively with parents and carers.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships within school and between school and home.

Additional Responsibilities – Curriculum Development

  • Attend curriculum team meetings.
  • Contribute to staff meetings.
  • Attend relevant training and courses.
  • Manage and develop resources.
  • Monitor impact and provision.
  • Work with parents and governors as appropriate.

Line Management Responsibility

Responsible for the supervision and deployment of staff providing support within the classroom.

Conditions of Employment

The post holder is required to actively promote and support the school’s ethos, aims and objectives through agreed policies and practices. The post holder must comply fully with the school’s safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures. The appointment is subject to statutory requirements as set out in the most recent School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document. All teachers have timetabled teaching commitments and a contractual entitlement to guaranteed PPA time, amounting to 10% of timetabled teaching time. The post holder may be required to undertake other reasonable duties, following consultation.
