Bowker Vale Primary School is committed to providing an excellent education through strong leadership and a shared belief in creating lifelong chances and choices for all our pupils. We are seeking a highly skilled, organised and motivated School Business Manager to join our team and play a pivotal role in the strategic and operational leadership of the school.
As School Business Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the effective financial management of our school and work closely with the Headteacher to ensure resources are used effectively to deliver the best outcomes for our pupils.
Financial Management
- Oversee the school budget, ensuring effective financial planning and resource allocation
- Manage day-to-day financial operations, including payroll, invoicing and procurement
- Provide regular financial reports and analysis to senior leaders and governors
Strategic Planning
- Collaborate with the Headteacher to develop and implement the school’s strategic plan
- Be part of the Senior Leadership Team
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation
- Contribute to the long-term sustainability of the school
Human Resources
- Oversee HR caseloads, including recruitment and staff CPD
- Ensure compliance with employment regulations and maintain accurate records, including SCR and personnel
- Implement effective Performance Appraisal systems
Facilities Management
- Supervise cleaning and caretaking staff, ensuring a safe environment
- Coordinate projects and maintenance schedules
- Manage relationships with external contractors
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure the school’s compliance with Health & Safety legislation and regulations
- Develop and implement risk assessments and management strategies
About the Candidate
The successful candidate will ideally:
- Have experience of working in a school setting; however, we also welcome applicants with strong transferable skills from other environments.
- Hold (or is working towards) a recognised School Business Manager qualification (CSBM, DSBM, or equivalent)
- Be able to solve problems and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Be highly organised, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Be confident in using different software systems and applications relevant to the role.
- Be committed to supporting the values and ethos of our school community.
