Working style: Hybrid – Employees split their time between working remotely (e.g., from home) and working on‑site (e.g., in an office).

The Corporate Revenues Service is seeking a Team Leader to lead a small group of Technical Officers to assist the Council Tax Service in the handling of casework, complaints and quality checking. This is a new team being formed as part of a review of the service's capacity to better support residents with their queries and issues and to provide a quality checking function. If you’re successful you’ll become part of a wider Council tax function providing collection and recovery functions for the Council, collecting over £230m annually in Council Tax.

About the Candidate

We would love to hear from you if you have recent experience in the administration of council tax in a local authority, including the handling of customer queries or complaints. Please also demonstrate in your supporting statement how you meet the following requirements.

Essential requirements

  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to advise others and deal with sensitive issues in difficult situations, negotiating riskier demands and difficult agreements. Is able to influence or persuade internal or external stakeholders.
  • Planning and Organising: Excellent prioritisation skills, evidenced by setting targets for self and others to meet demanding timescales. Demonstrate the ability to organise multiple tasks in the most effective way, and allocate time and energy according to task complexity and priority.
  • Problem Solving and Decision Making: Ability to analyse situations, diagnose problems, identify the key issues, establish and evaluate alternative courses of action and produce a logical, practical and acceptable solution.
  • People Management: Ability to manage and motivate staff to high levels of performance in order to achieve change and maximise staff potential and contribution to the achievement of identified aims and objectives.
  • IT Skills: Ability to use multiple applications, systems and associated software packages.
  • Financial Management: Resource and financial management skills, including resolution of conflicting priorities, formulating budgets, rigorous monitoring and control procedures.
  • Communications Skills: Is able to effectively transfer key and complex information to all levels of staff, adapting the style communication as necessary and ensuring that this information is understood.
  • Existing expertise and experience in the administration of Council Tax, Business Rates or Miscellaneous Debt recovery.
