Casual Car Documentation: The successful candidate will be a designated Casual Car User which means that car journeys may be necessary on an occasional basis, but are not essential to the role. If you do drive, you must hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work, as well as provide all the appropriate documentation. You will receive an allowance per mile of business use.
DBS clearance: This post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (amended in 2013). Appointable candidates will be required to apply for an Enhanced DBS check. Information provided by you or the DBS will be dealt with confidentially and in accordance with the DBS Code of Practice. A policy on the Employment of Ex-Offenders is available upon request.
The role is based in Manchester and involves managing a caseload of Manchester Adult Education learners, ensuring targets for learner engagement are met and that each learner has a practical and high-quality action plan to progress with further learning and/or in their career.
You will be required to:
- Support the Preparation for Work District Programme Leader and Preparation for Work Curriculum Manager with the MAES CEIAG strategy objectives, ensuring KPIs are met and outstanding practice is achieved.
- Establish excellent relationships across MAES curriculum and Business Support teams, fostering engagement with the Careers team.
- Provide individual careers education IAG to support MAES learner career development.
- Develop practical high-quality action plans to support progress to positive destinations.
- Provide timely CEIAG to MAES learners with a flexible approach to work, including working from different locations and outside core hours when required.
- Work in partnership with employers and referral agencies to support MAES learners to gain the skills and competencies that lead to progression opportunities.
- Maintain and develop partnerships with external stakeholders to ensure MAES learners receive the best support with taking next steps.
- Develop and maintain labour market intelligence to identify sectoral opportunities for MAES learners.
- Contribute to ensuring Manchester Adult Education meets MATRIX quality standards.
- Have specialist knowledge and experience (e.g., skills, housing, health, ESOL, SEND) to contribute to the Careers Service.
- Report progress to the Preparation for Work District Programme Leader and Preparation for Work Curriculum Manager, ensuring all careers work is recorded and stored in line with GDPR.
Additional Information: This role is based in Manchester and may require citywide travel to meet MAES learners across centres, attend team meetings, citywide events and engage with community organisations.
About The Candidate
As a Careers and Progression Advisor, you should:
- Have a track record of delivering Information, Advice or Guidance and employability support to Manchester residents.
- Hold a Level 6 or above qualification in Information, Advice or Guidance with a careers/employability focus and/or equivalent experience.
- Hold GCSE A*-C / 9-4 in English and Maths (essential).
- Demonstrate professional competence to deliver effective Careers Education IAG.
- Have experience working with residents with varying needs and challenges.
- Have knowledge of Manchester-based referral and support agencies.
- Be able to manage a caseload flexibly and demonstrate excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Be able to assess needs and develop individual potential through career coaching.
- Show commitment to continuous professional development and team improvements.
