We are seeking a reliable, talented and enthusiastic Junior Sous Chef to join our passionate team. Set in the tranquil, affluent village of Newnham, Old House at Home is a highly rated, traditional countryside pub close by to Tylney Hall and the neighbouring historic villages of Odiham and Old Basing. The pub was relaunched under new family ownership in December 2025, with a vision to provide guests with warm, local hospitality and exceptional locally sourced food and drinks in a cosy setting.
Building an enthusiastic, passionate kitchen team with a focus on quality over quantity is a priority for the business and we are looking for a talented Junior Sous Chef to join our friendly team and help to shape our culinary direction. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone ready to take the next step in their career, with potential for promotion and leadership as we grow.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with menu design and development
- Execute food preparation and cooking activities to a high standard
- Maintain consistency in taste with expert presentation
- Ensure food safety and kitchen cleanliness
- Manage stock, ordering, and waste reduction
- Contribute to new menu ideas based on seasonal trends and customer feedback
- Monitor GP, stock control, and kitchen costs
- A minimum of one year as a Junior Sous Chef or two+ years as a Chef de Partie serving 80+ covers is essential
- Strong culinary and presentation skills with attention to detail
- Experience of managing or supervising a kitchen team
- Knowledge of food safety and HACCP procedures
- Familiarity with allergens policies and compliance
- Ability to work under pressure while remaining calm and organised
- Strong communication skills
- Working directly with the owners on strategic culinary direction in-keeping with the vision for the business
- Understanding of seasonal menus and use of fresh ingredients
- Own transport preferable due to rural location
