Working Pattern: Permanent / Full Time
As the Lead Technical Safety Engineer, you will:
- Generate, check, and approve Deliverables, Safety Screening, Terms of Reference, Safety close-out reports, Action Tracking, and close-out.
- Supervise project management of activities undertaken by 3rd party Consultants (e.g. Phast Modelling, CFD).
- Have experience in writing and checking system Scopes of work for 3rd party specialist vendors.
- Provide technical safety and risk management support & advice to operational and project personnel.
- Support incident investigations for process safety related events.
- Have proven capability in an engineering design company / EPCC support role experience.
- Be technically competent in own discipline and actively maintain own competence according to standards and pursue continuous professional development.
- Provide value adding knowledge to constructability reviews and take consideration of layout restrictions, ergonomics, safety, utilities, and maintainability.
- Check and approve of and generate calculations against design code and best practice.
- Have experience in mentoring junior and graduate engineers.
- Have good experience in supporting business development for new bids (Understanding scope, preparing deliverables and process activities and CTR preparation and process narratives).
- Have excellent experience in Managing Team delivery, assigning work, monitoring progress, inputting weekly timely progress to planning tools and attending planning and resource meetings to ensure team resource and delivery progress aspects are maintained.

About You
You’ll have experience of:
- Safety Engineering / Safety and Reliability experience (including in offshore Energy Sector) in delivery of Engineering projects.
- Production of Safety Engineering studies to support a holistic case for safety at plant/site/installation.
- Participating in Safety workshops (HAZOP/HAZID/LOPA/etc). Experience of facilitation of various Safety Reviews desirable.
- Excellent experience in the following: Hazardous Area designation/classification/ Major Accident Hazard / Hazard identification / Safety critical systems/elements in design and operation / Inherent Safety of area/plant/occupancy design / knowledge of Human Factors / QRA, FRA, FMEA, SIL, LOPA processes of assessment / Safety Case / Control of Major Accidents reporting/documentation.
- UK Safety Case Regulations 2015 for offshore installations.
- Safety Systems on Offshore/ Onshore Assets (e.g., Emergency Firefighting systems, Lifeboats & Life rafts, Fire & Gas, ESD, Essential Services & Generators Helideck, Evacuation & Escape).
- Demonstrating ALARP for projects throughout lifecycle and challenge decisions where necessary.
- Hazardous area drawings and assessments.
- Fire and Gas detection Systems requirements for brownfield and greenfield projects.
- Dropped objects studies assessment requirements.
- Excellent experience in performing technical safety studies for technical evaluation of safety solutions.
- Producing deliverables that conform to all applicable industry engineering codes and standards as well as the client’s policies and procedures relative to the equipment being specified. Sound knowledge of relevant commonly used codes therefore required.
- FERA and EERA requirements and assessment.
- Dispersion modelling, Blast overpressure, radiation studies and assessments.
- Simulation Software such as PHAST highly advantageous.
Qualifications
- BSc or equivalent in relevant Engineering Discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status preferred.
- Significant, demonstrable experience in Detailed Design Engineering and Engineering Checking/Approval.
- Detailed understanding of all Engineering disciplines.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of relevant Oil & Gas Industry Codes and Standards.
- Understand the application of Autodesk Design products.
- Competent in the use of MS Office applications.
