We do that by serving as an integrated hardware and software smart-grid platform, focused on the residential EV charging market. The worlds of energy, transport and artificial intelligence are colliding and Ohme is at the heart of this new era. By using technology and data integrations to connect cars, chargers, people, energy providers and more, Ohme has a powerful platform that puts the consumer at the core. Ohme has been selling its chargers to consumers since mid 2019 and has had exponential growth since. We are now operating in multiple countries and have partnerships with the likes of VW, Mercedes, Octopus Energy, and other innovative brands. We are scaling up the business and are building out the team for rapid growth. If you’re interested in joining a fast-growing cleantech venture on a data and AI-first journey to speed up the global transition to clean, affordable energy, read on!

We are looking for an experienced Technical Lead to join Ohme's Purchase and Fulfilment (P&F) team. P&F manages and maintains a number of digital products covering the complete customer journey, from initial discovery through to charger installation. The team is split into two squads working together to deliver this end-to-end experience. In 2026, the team is scaling internationally with AI-powered customer experiences, migrating a legacy Kotlin monolith into domain-driven services and moving frontend applications from Vue to Next.js.

This is a hands‑on technical leadership role: you will guide and mentor engineers, set technical direction, and be deeply involved in architecture and delivery across both backend and frontend domains. You will work from our London office 3 days a week.

Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership
    • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and support to engineers of varying seniority.
    • Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of complex systems and features across the P&F stack.
    • Review code, enforce standards, and ensure scalable, maintainable solutions.
    • Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical teams, ensuring clarity and alignment.
    • Advocate for technical excellence in planning and prioritisation discussions.
    • Stay current with emerging technologies and propose innovative approaches where they add genuine value.
  • Delivery and Collaboration
    • Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to define technical requirements and translate them into actionable plans.
    • Drive execution of projects from conception to deployment, balancing speed with quality.
    • Identify and mitigate risks in architecture and delivery timelines.
    • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement in both process and technology.
    • Participate in recruitment by interviewing candidates for technical positions.
    • Keep abreast of industry trends and communicate relevant developments to your team.
Who You Are
  • Live our values: Customer Obsessed, Collaboration, Progressive, Brave, Do Good.
  • Be a team player with creative opinions, focused on driving solutions.
  • Always look forward and learn from mistakes.
  • Front-end and backend capable: Comfortable across the full P&F stack, with strong TypeScript/Next.js frontends experience and confidence in contributing to Kotlin backend.
  • Collaborative: You work well across squads, communicate trade-offs clearly, and bring people along with you on architectural decisions.
  • Mentor: You foster a collaborative and inclusive environment, encouraging knowledge sharing and investing in the growth of engineers around you.
  • Pragmatic: You balance innovation with delivery, making sound judgements about when to move fast and when to invest in quality.
  • Curious: You take the time to understand business context, not just technical requirements, and bring that into how you build.
Required Experience
  • Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer, Technical Lead, or similar role involving leading or mentoring a team.
  • Very experienced with developing across a full TypeScript/Next.js frontend stack and experience (or desire) to also work across the full stack – our backend stack is Kotlin with Spring Boot.
  • Demonstrated success in system design, architecture, and scaling solutions in a product‑first environment.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with a balance of pragmatism and innovation.
  • Experience collaborating cross‑functionally with product managers, designers, and business stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical complexity for non-technical audiences.
Desirable
  • Familiarity with event‑driven architecture and domain‑driven design, including tools such as Kafka and DynamoDB.
  • Experience with AWS infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, CDK).
  • Energy sector or EV industry domain knowledge.
  • Experience working with observability tooling such as Datadog or Sentry.

How to prepare for a job interview at Ohme

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Ohme uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
