Are you a talented and driven Data Engineer looking to make a significant impact? We are seeking a passionate individual to join our dynamic Data team. As a Data Engineer, you will develop and scale the operational data platform that drives the energy trading arm of the business. This is reliant on accurate, timely operational data to trade, forecast, reconcile and settle effectively. You will work closely with data engineers, software engineers, analysts and trading stakeholders to design and operate AWS-based batch and streaming pipelines that power our internal tooling and trading workflows. This is not a traditional BI-focused role; the focus is on building reliable operational data systems with strong observability, data quality, and low-latency analytics capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate: Work with data engineers, software engineers, the data innovation team, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver innovative solutions.
  • Real‑Time Analytics: Design and implement real‑time streaming pipelines using AWS Kinesis, Apache Flink, or similar technologies to process energy data, market prices, and trading signals with sub‑minute latency.
  • Operational Datasets: Design and maintain operational datasets and data services used for trading, forecasting settlement, reconciliation, and real‑time decision support workflows.
  • Data Lake & Warehouse: Build and optimize data lake (S3, Glue, Iceberg) and data warehouse solutions for both batch analytics and real‑time querying, supporting OLAP workloads separate from production OLTP systems.
  • Automate: Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, especially AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK), to automate the deployment and management of data infrastructure.

About You

  • Proven professional experience as a data engineer building production‑grade data platforms on AWS.
  • Experience with real‑time streaming technologies.
  • Possess strong IaC (preferably AWS CDK) and Python/TypeScript skills.
  • Comfortable designing reliable, observable and testable data systems with CI/CD and environment separation.
  • Experience with columnar data formats (Parquet, Iceberg) and query optimization for large‑scale datasets.
  • Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills, with a great engineering mindset.
  • Experience in the energy industry, trading systems, or balancing markets (BSCP, Elexon) beneficial but not required.

Our values

  • Customer Obsessed: The customer is at the heart of everything we do.
  • Brave: We try new things and lead through possibility.
  • Collaborative: We believe our success is built on strong relationships.
  • Do Good: We care about people and the environment.
  • Progressive: We innovate, disrupt and are always learning.

You’ll get to work in a fast‑paced and rapidly growing scale‑up with global ambitions that is cutting edge, passionate about sustainability and seeks to make the world a better place.
