This Assistant Fund Accountant role sits in the fund finance team at the private equity arm of a global investment manager in London. This team is responsible for circa 10 billion dollars of assets under management invested into Private Equity and Infrastructure Strategies.

This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to gain exposure to private markets whilst being given the opportunity to gain a professional qualification and develop under the guidance of an experienced team.

You will be responsible for key areas of fund control such as:

  • The accurate input of journal entries into the accounting system
  • Collating quarterly valuations from underlying investment managers
  • Preparing key investor documents such as investor notices and fund financial statements
  • Monitoring fund liquidity and cash payments
  • Assisting the Fund Accountants with the oversight of third party fund administrators

The Funds Finance Team works collaboratively with Funds Tax, Legal, Investment and Investor Relations teams on a daily basis; therefore, good verbal and written communication is important.

The business collates a large volume of data which the Funds Finance Team are required to review, analyse and report on to investors and the wider business. This role would suit a candidate who is comfortable with manipulating data and is enthusiastic to embrace new technologies and automate processes.

You will be assigned an allocation of funds entities for which you will be accountable for completing the key tasks set out above, facilitating the maintenance of up-to-date and accurate financial information needed for the fund entities to meet their obligations as set out in the various partnership agreements. You will complete these tasks under the training and supervision of the Funds Finance Manager and Fund Accountants.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing fund liquidity through the preparation/update of cash forecasts based on fees, expenses, investment and investor drawdowns and distributions
  • Production of weekly and monthly Bank Reconciliations
  • Production of monthly custody reconciliations
  • Managing and inputting payments across the funds
  • Monitoring the new deals log, collating the required information from the investment team to facilitate deals funding on time
  • Ensuring the accounting books and records are kept up to date through timely and accurate input of accounting journal entries
  • Collation of quarterly valuations
  • Maintenance of the Finance group mailbox and responding to queries
  • Preparation of investor drawdowns and distributions
  • Preparation of fund financial statements
  • Assistance with preparing information required for audit and responding to auditor queries
  • Assistance with regulatory reporting
  • Collation of financial information for the investment team to support investor reporting and fundraising activity
  • Collaborating with the Tax Managers to facilitate their preparation of tax reporting documents
  • Identifying manual processes which can be improved and working with the Funds Finance Managers to improve these processes through the use of technology tools at our disposal
  • Assisting the Funds Finance Team in improving the quality of data extraction and storage in order to facilitate high-quality investor reporting alongside the performance reporting and investor relations teams

  • 2 years+ of management accounting or financial accounting or audit experience
  • Working towards a professional accounting qualification (i.e. ACCA, ICAEW or equivalent)
  • Strong academics with ideally a 2.1 University Grade
  • Ideally some practical financial reporting experience reporting under UK GAAP, IFRS or US GAAP
  • Proficient in Excel and Word at minimum with experience with programmes such as Power BI, Alteryx being advantageous
  • Deadline-focused, reliable and able to work independently
  • High attention to detail and the ability to review large excel models
  • Enthusiastic, willing to learn and take on new responsibilities
  • Organised in approach to work, with the ability to prioritise effectively
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the confidence to deal with key senior stakeholders
